Khan is Pak envoy to India

Islamabad, May 17
Doing exactly what India had done a few days ago, Pakistan today named its Ambassador to China Riaz Muhammad Khan, a career diplomat, as the High Commissioner to India, ending speculation that journalist-turned diplomat Maleeha Lodhi could occupy the key slot.

India’s Ambassador to China Shivshankar Menon was appointed High Commissioner to Islamabad on May 13 and Pakistan followed suit in relocating Mr Khan to New Delhi, restoring full diplomatic relations between the two countries after a gap of nearly 17 months.

Mr Khan, known as an India hardliner, will take charge of the mission last headed by Mr Ashraf Jehangir Qazi. PTI

Pak: no unilateral rollback of N-programme

Islamabad, May 17
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Khursheed M. Kasuri has said his government will never give up its nuclear weapons unless India does, according to news reports today.

“Let me say categorically, there will be no unilateral rollback of Pakistan’s nuclear programme,” Mr Kasuri was quoted by the state-run news agency as saying in an interview with the Urdu Jang newspaper group.

Mr Kasuri said Pakistan had reason to believe that India was a “threat” to its security. “Our threat perception is real. It is not imaginary,” he said. APBack
