Husband, friends booked for rape of minor
Girl married off forcibly
Ludhiana, May 17
A 10-month-long struggle of a minor girl to get criminal action against her husband and some of his friends who allegedly forced her mother to marry her off without her will has finally borne fruit when the Jagraon police today registered a case of forcible marriage and rape against the accused persons, some of whom belong to affluent families of Jagraon. The police has also booked her mother for marrying off the minor girl.

The search for seven missing members of a family from Hyderabad came to a tragic end here this morning with postmortem examination and identification by relatives confirming that the seven remaining unclaimed bodies at the Civil Hospital were in fact of the missing persons.

DC inaugurates school for slum kids

The Nishkam Seva Ashram today started a school in Jamuna slums, situated along the Pakhowal canal. There are around 150 hutments in the area. Since these people live in abject poverty, education always seemed out of their reach.

Notice of motion to schools on donation issue
Ludhiana, May 17
Taking up a public interest litigation (PIL) with allegations of charging ‘hefty donations and other charges’ for giving admissions to pre-nursery, nursery and LKG classes by five leading CBSE-affiliated city schools, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the issuance of notice of motion to the principals of these school and other respondents returnable by July 3.

More land sought for law college

Mr Harnam Dass Johar, Higher Education Minister, Punjab, has announced that the process to arrange sufficient land for the Law College, to be started in the city, has been initiated and a four-storeyed new building of the college would be constructed, where all latest facilities for the students, including a library, would be provided.

Parents give reminder to ADC

The parents’ association which had submitted a complaint to the Additional Deputy Commissioner against Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, and DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, accusing them of demanding donations for admissions of children to nursery or KG classes two months ago, has now sent a reminder.
