VC promises action
on question paper leakage Ambala, April 13 Talking to TNS, he said the well-being of students and teachers was the uppermost in his list of priorities and he would strive to help the university regain its lost prestige. On the leakage of question papers leading to the cancellation and postponement of various examinations, Dr Chawla said a high-level inquiry had been ordered to probe into the racket and action would be taken against those found guilty. A committee comprising six deans of the university had been constituted to fix responsibility in this regard. To check any tampering, envelopes containing the question papers would now be sealed and put in banks, as is done by the CBSE, said the VC. The superintendents of various centres would only be allowed to withdraw them an hour before the examination. Admitting that the cancellation of papers all over and rescheduling them puts students to inconvenience, Dr Chawla said it had been done only to make the system more fool-proof. The VC has once again allowed girl students to study and appear as private candidates for examinations of various classes. The university had earlier disallowed them to appear privately. Further, students can now clear their compartment in two chances instead of one. Expressing concern at the falling standards of research in education, Dr Chawla said steps would be taken to motivate students and teachers to undertake more research projects. Teachers will, henceforth, be allowed to carry a part of the answer-sheets home for evaluation but will be required to submit them back within the stipulated time. However, spot evaluation will continue. The VC said the academic fees would not be changed mid-session. He would also take up problems of private college teachers with the Director, Higher Education. |
