Tribune News Service

Ropar, November 29
The court of Special Judge here today framed charges against Sucha Singh Langah, former Punjab PWD Minister, under Sections 13 (a) (e), 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 467 and 468 of the IPC in criminal and corruption case registered against him by the Vigilance Bureau on May 16 at SAS Nagar.

Besides, Langah, the Special Judge, Mr A.S. Kathuria, also framed charges against nine others under Section 120-B of the IPC, while he discharged six others in the case.

Mr Pradeep Mehta, Special Additional Public Prosecutor, who pleaded on behalf of the prosecution in connection with the framing of charges against Langah and others, argued in the court that prima-facie there was circumstantial evidence against the accused which led to a conspiracy regarding the accumulation of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and purchase of “benami” properties by Langah.

On the other hand the counsel for the accused said there were vague allegations against his clients and there was no concrete evidence against them.

In this case the Special Judge also framed charges against Amrik Singh Mohali, a senior SAD leader, Vinod Kumar Garg, Subhash Chander Jain, Pradeep Bhateja, Jasbir Singh, Bikramjit Singh, Sampuran Singh, Sher Singh Shera and Subhash Sharma.

Those who were discharged by the court are Gurcharan Singh Channi, Gurbachan Pal Singh, Kamaljeet Singh Neetu, Gagandeep Singh and Nimradeep Singh, both SDOs, and Gurinder Pal Singh, a contractor.
