If the scarcity continued for some more times, the situation could become worst, he said. He was addressing a meeting in the wholesale cloth market in Ambala City.

HUDA auction draws flak Ambala, November 18 The two municipal councillors claimed that the auction had led to a loss worth crores to the exchequer while a HUDA official termed the allegations baseless. The HUDA official categorically stated the auction had fetched the best price. The restaurant-cum-shop site was put on auction in 2001.A company bid Rs 5.60 crore for the plot measuring 750 sq m. The auction was believed to be recordbreaking and the locals wondered at the extremely-high price for the plot. The bidder was required to deposit 10 per cent of the bid amount on the spot. However, after the auction, the winning bidder was unavailable. Despite repeated efforts by HUDA officials, the bidder could not be contacted. The winning bidder lost the earnest money of Rs 5000. In May this year, the site was again put up for auction. This time, the winning bid was for Rs 2.88 crore. The winning bid now was three times the reserve price of Rs 95 lakh. The two municipal councillors, in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, claimed that the winning bid in the second auction was much lower than the winning bid in the first auction. They have demanded a thorough probe into the auction. They demanded that the auction be cancelled and a fresh auction held after giving publicity. A HUDA official, however, denied the allegation. In the first auction, the earnest money was Rs 5,000. A sum of Rs 5.60 crore was the winning bid. It was an abnormally-high bid and when the winning bidder became untraceable after the auction, we realised that there was something fishy about the matter,” he said. “We suspect that the high bid could have been given to torpedo the chances of other bidders and this led to the auction effort not yielding the desired result,” he said. HUDA hiked the earnest money to Rs 2.5 lakh. “The earnest money was hiked from Rs 5000 to Rs 2.5 lakh to ensure that only serious bidders would participate in the auction,” he said.

air grievances Kaithal, November 18 Making an indirect reference to Mr Bansi Lal, Mr Bhajan Lal and late Devi Lal, the speakers said the three “lals” were responsible for their unenviale position in
Haryana politics. Mr Kaushik warned certain community leaders not to follow the agenda of promoting their kin in politics and to watch the interests of whole community. The meeting was addressed by a former Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr Roshan Lal Tewari, who exhorted the community members to create awareness and chalk out a strategy to gain political strength to work for the betterment of their community. Mr Yogesh Sharma, a former MLA, Mr Rajinder Saleti and Mr Dharam Pal Sharma, convener of the meeting, also addressed the meeting. Mr Kavi Raj Sharma, a supporter of Mr Bhajan Lal also called a meeting of Brahmins at Kalayat town in the district on the same day. Besides Brahmins, members of other communities were also present at this meeting. They discussed the present political situation in Haryana. |

Hooda: drought relief peanuts Chandigarh, November 18 In a statement issued here today Mr Hooda said the pittance given by the Centre in the name of drought relief only confirmed what had been earlier stated by Union Agriculture Minister Ajit Singh that the Chautala Government had failed to put up a convincing case for relief to the farmers. Though the BJP and the INLD were a part of the NDA, both parties always tried to undermine each other. He dared the Chief Minister to name any single project that he had been able to get from the Centre specially for Haryana. |

Blockades
enter fourth day Jhajjar, November 18 The road blockade lasted for nine hours, police sources said. They said three more suspects have been identified during investigations in connection with the incidents following the lynching of five Dalits at Dulina last month. Some more arrests are expected soon. The protest, however, showed signs of weakness as the road to Badli was open today while villagers put up obstacles at Dadri Toye on the Gurgaon road and at Silani on the Rewari road. There was no report of any untoward incident from any place in the district, the sources said.

Swami seeks aid for cattle Ambala, November 18 The president of the market association, Mr Harcharan Singh Bhatia, assured Swami Duttsharanand that the people of Ambala would provide maximum assistance to the drought-affected cattle. Later, talking to mediapersons, he said the entire state of Rajasthan was facing the worst drought of the decade. He said the religious and social organisations of the state were working hard to save the cattle. He said there were around three crore cattle in Rajasthan and most of the people of the border districts earn their livelihood through cattle. He said the Union and state governments were also not providing sufficient assistance to save the drought-affected people and cattle. He appealed to the social and religious organisations of Haryana and Punjab to send fodder to Rajasthan.  |

scheme Chandigarh, November 18 The scheme was initially scheduled up to November 15. The scheme had been initiated to avoid prolonged litigation and to settle long-pending court or arbitration cases.
