MAMC flash strike, exam postponed

Even as the police claimed that the hunt for the alleged rapists of a fourth year Maulana Azad Medical College student had intensified, the ire of the students manifested itself in a flash strike, forcing the authorities to postpone the scheduled fourth year examination today.

Allottees pick holes in Huda policy

Irked by the ‘pick and choose’ policy of Haryana Urban Development Authority in the allotment of alternative plots to the original allottees, Mr Raj Kumar Rathee, an original allottee, has appealed to the Chief Administrator, Huda, against the ‘sordid’ developments.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee initiated the Prakash Utsav ceremony of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji with a grand and colourful procession in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The procession started at 10.30 a.m with school and college students, along with their colourful bands, winding through the main bazaar of Delhi from Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib. Gatka parties, famous kirtan jathas, decorated elephants, horses and thousands of devotees followed, reciting “Sat Nam, Sri Wahe Guru”. After passing through Chandni Chowk, the procession terminated at Gurdwara Nanak Piao Sahib. A number of prominent members of the DSGMC also took part in the procession. TNS

Ground water level goes down by 4.5 m
New Delhi, November 18
Parliament was today informed that the ground water level in several parts of the national Capital had receded by 4.5 metres during 2001-02 and the situation was compounded by a further decline of up to three metres due to scanty monsoon rains this year.

The Haryana Government proposes to set up a new fire station in Sector 23, a residential colony of the Haryana Urban Development Authority of the city. This was stated by Mr Sanjeev Kaushal, Director of Local Bodies, Haryana at a meeting of the officials here yesterday.

Man shot at
Faridabad, November 18
A middle-aged person was injured after he was fired upon by a resident of Bahbalpur village in the district this morning. The accused fled after the incident. The victim, identified as Man Singh, also a resident of the same village, was nursing an old enmity with the accused, who fired at him from a country-made revolver.

Conman’s extortion bid foiled in CP
New Delhi, November 18
The police patrolling party arrested a customer care executive from Connaught Place where he was allegedly extorting money from a person who went there for shopping. The victim, Sumit Kumar, a resident of Karol Bagh, went to Connaught Place last evening for shopping.

HC to decide on Mirpur PG Centre
Rewari, November 18
The long-pending issue to establish the Postgraduate Regional Centre at Mirpur village near Rewari has now assumed priority on the agenda of the Haryana Government, apparently as a sequel to the recent court orders. The Punjab and Haryana High Court would take up the hearing of a writ petition filed in this connection by the elders of the Mirpur village on December 2, 2002.
