New order says Siddiqui to report to DGP

In less than 48 hours of its decision to give “sweeping powers” to Mr
A.A. Siddiqui after designating him as Officer on Special Duty (Law and Order), the Punjab Government today relented to restore the status of Mr M. S. Bhullar as full-fledged Director-General of Police.

The areas close to the Shivaliks foothills were plunged into darkness — only for a while . Thick and dark clouds roared and rumbled. It poured incessantly in the afternoon today. Lightning followed each roar as roundabouts and road stretches in the city filled up. Traffic came to a halt.

Battlelines have been drawn between powerful wine contractors of the border district. “Unauthorised” joint nakas by Punjab police commandos and the “private army” raised by the liquor lobby have been harassing the common man, it is being alleged.
