His appeal comes in response to the desire expressed by some faculty members in a letter to the management to initiate action that would quickly normalise the functioning of the institution.

Smart drivers evade toll tax by finding new routes

Even as the Central Government has imposed toll tax near Doraha on National Highway Number 1, some smart drivers have discovered new routes to evade the ''huge amounts of tax'' and have started passing through villages in the vicinity of the tax barrier.

Army warns youth against touts
Ludhiana, July 28
The Army has cautioned the youth of the region to beware of touts, who promise “sure-shot” entry into the Army but only fleece the youth of thousands of rupees.
An Army press note issued here today said that a recruitment rally would be organised in different districts of Punjab from August 5 to 10.

IT Dept sniffs at Tangri’s assets

After the police and Municipal Corporation, it is the turn of the Income Tax Department to tighten its noose around Shiv Sena (Rashtrawadi) chief Jagdish Tangri, who is in the police custody facing several charges ranging from rioting to running illegal CD manufacturing business.

Punjab Agricultural University today declared the result of Entrance Test Met-Agriculture here. According to Dr S.S. Chahal, Controller of Examinations, PAU, the result has been displayed on the notice board of Thapar Hall.

Escaped convict held
Ludhiana, July 28
After remaining a free but terrified bird for just over 24 hours only, Bikkar Singh, a convict serving a sentence in an attempt to murder case, who had escaped from a farmhouse of the Central Jail yesterday, was nabbed by officials of the PCR motorcycle squad from an agricultural field on the outskirts of the city in the Basti Jodhewal area today late afternoon.

Man assaulted, hospitalised
Jagraon, July 28
Some boys armed with sword and canes allegedly attacked and injured Sunil, a resident of Bajwa Colony, near the head post office.
According to an eyewitness, the accused continued causing injuries till Sunil fell on the ground. To escape further attack, an injured Sunil ran towards the Kamal chowk but the attackers followed him and gave him a beating.

As many as eight students of Ramgarhia Girls College have appeared in the list 10 students topping MSc (Information Technology) examination conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh. This was claimed in a Press note issued by the college authorities here today.
