Chautala warns erring farmers Kaithal, March 17 Mr Chautala said those taking law in their hands would not be spared and asked such people not to consider the soft attitude of the government as its weakness. He said a number of farmers had started clearing their power bills but certain mischievous elements had taken law into their hands and instigated the farmers not to pay their bills. Speaking on the future power scenario in the state, Mr Chautala said in the coming next three years 3,500 mw additional power will be available in the state. He predicted that UP will go for the Assembly poll again within the next one year as no party would be able to form a stable government in view of the present political situation. He said his party would put up its candidates in maximum number of Assembly constituencies. constituencies and was still popular with the people of Haryana. Do they live in Haryana or Punjab? Ramgarh (Panchkula) The Haryana Government says that most of the TBRL colony lies in the area falling under Punjab and hence they cannot be given voters’ identity cards by the state government. The government maintains that other than four houses in the colony, which have 13 voters, the rest of the 150-odd houses are located in Punjab. This in spite of the fact that the TBRL falls in Ramgarh village and the residents of the colony have been paying their electricity bills, amounting to several lakhs of rupees, to the Haryana Government. Ration cards are issued to these residents by the state government. The local Ballistic Vidyalaya (Defence Reasearch Development Organisation) is also affiliated to the Haryana School Education Board. Even death and birth certificates are issued to these residents by the Haryana Government. Besides, the Health Department of the Government of Haryana has been undertaking immunisation programmes here. The entry to the colony is also through the Panchkula-Naraingarh road in Haryana. Recently, the Panchkula district administration had carried out an exercise to include the names of the residents in its voters’ list and give them voters’ I-cards. These residents had applied for the I-cards, but their pleas were again rejected. Mr S.K. Juneja, general secretary of the TBRL Employees Union says: “Even after 35 years of Haryana being carved out of Punjab, the dispute over boundaries still continues. As a result, the residents of this colony have been denied one of the most basic of constitutional rights — that of electing their representatives.” He says the union has approached the authorities concerned several times for redress of their grievance and the issue has also been brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, but to no avail. The TBRL was set up here in 1966 and the colony the following year. When the colony was set up, there were only 60 dwelling units and it was part of the TBRL campus. Later, when the Ambala-Panchkula highway was constructed by the then Bansi Lal government in 1972, the colony was segregated from the main campus. More than 150 families live here. It is learnt that the matter of these residents being granted their right to vote was discussed with the TBRL Works Committee a few months ago. “It was then decided that the matter should be taken up with the Election Commission, Haryana, but several representations to the authorities concerned have not yielded any result,” says Mr Dhan Prakash, another resident of the colony. |

CM opens warehouse;
warns kisan leaders Karnal, March 17 The Warehouse has been constructed by Hafed. In order to meet the requirements of covered storage space, Hafed has initiated a campaign for construction of godowns for storage of rice and other foodgrains. Haryana has fixed a target for construction of 3.25 lakh mt capacity godowns under a seven-year guarantee scheme of the FCI. The construction of 2.65 lakh mt capacity godowns through private parties would be completed during 2002. Hafed’s service package includes supply of quality agricultural inputs, adequate marketing support for farmers and dependable buyer for their produce. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister warned all such elements who were inciting farmers. Mr Chautala stated that the state government would act firmly against such leaders. The Chief Minister seemed upset over the activities of Kisan leaders. Only two days back farmers of Ballah village had dismantled electronic power meters and thrown these before the HVPN office. Besides, a rally of farmers was held at the Pipli grain market on Friday evening to protest against the “antifarmers” policies of the Chautala government. Leaders of the BKU who organised the rally warned the state government that they would not allow installation of electronic meters for their water pumps. The rally also demanded that farmers should be provided fertilisers, pesticides and seeds at cheap rates. Leaders of farmers alleged that the Chautala government had forgotten all pre-poll promises made to the farmers. The farmers also took out a procession. |
Bhajan’s son for Chautala ouster Hisar, March 17 Speaking at a well-attended function held here to felicitate him, Mr Kuldeep Bishnoi said the Chautala government had turned the state into the personal fiefdom of the Chief Minister and his sons extortion with the police patronage had become the order of the day. He alleged that there was goonda raj in Haryana at present and only Mr Bhajan Lal and the Congress could bring the state back on the road of prosperity. Predicting a landslide victory for his party in the next Assembly poll he asked youth to fight for justice and the restoration of rule of law in the state. He said youth power had always played an important role in the state politics and there was no need to despair. The chief guest, Rao Narender Singh, Congress MLA from Ateli said only the Congress had recognised the youth power and had always given youth leaders prominent roles in the party as well as the government. This would happen again once the Chautala government was ousted. Terming the Chautala government as undemocratic he said the locking out of Congress legislators during the current Assembly session had proved that the Chief Minister could throw all democratic norms to the wind to stifle protest. |
