Dissolve Haryana Assembly: Kataria Yamunanagar, January 30 Mr Kataria demanded the dissolution of the Haryana Assembly and holding of fresh elections in the state. He said he met Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala on December 23 in Hisar to discuss the Yamunanagar seat but no positive response was given to him. He alleged that even in last year’s February election the INLD betrayed BJP candidates. He said that he had informed about the situation to the party high command and made it clear that they would not tolerate any more humiliation. He said in future their party would contest on its own and would not go for an alliance. Mr Krishan Pal Gujjar was also critical about the present regime and alleged that their most of the party men were humiliated. Mr Kataria made it clear that there was no dissidence in the party and all party men were working together to ensure the victory of Mr Ghanshyam, BJP candidate, from the Yamunanagar seat. He said their plank for the election would be the development programmes by the Central Government. He said under the leadership of Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee there was surplus food in the country. One crore houses had been built for the poor and Rs 12.5 crore subsidy had been given on fertiliser. Dr Kamla Verma and Mr Shashi Pal Mehta, former minister, were also present. |
CPI to support Cong
nominee Yamunanagar, January 30 When asked about the broken alliance of the BJP and the INLD, Mr Hooda said the BJP had not withdrawn support for the first time but done so four times. He said that the alliance was supposed to be broken because the people of the state were not safe in the regime. When asked contest will be between which parties, Mr Hooda said the Congress would emerge as number one party and the INLD and the BJP would come second and third. Mr Hooda said the joining of the INLD by Rajesh Sharma would not effect the Congress, rather its position would be strengthened. He said on February 4 general body meeting of the state Congress would be convened at Yamunanagar in which all senior Congress leaders would participate. He made it clear that the Congress is united. Mr Hooda welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on the completion of the SYL canal within a period of one year. |

Railway pensioners for early settlement of cases Ambala, January 30 The president of the forum, Mr
G.B. Dass, said that there are many railway pensioners who are awaiting pension revision based on the recommendations of the pay commission since their records are in the Delhi division. “We have been raising this issue time and again but to no avail. We are keen that this should be settled at the earlier,” he said. Mr Dass said that in the last pension adalat, 10 cases raised by the forum had been solved but four cases were still pending. One such case is of a mentally challenged person Pravin Kumar. Pravin’s father Tarlok Chand had expired and his wife was drawing family pension. Subsequently, on her death, Pravin was getting a portion of the pension. He said that since Pravin is mentally challenged, he is authorised for a portion of the pension throughout his life. “We are trying to ensure that his case is settled soon. The case has been hanging fire for a long”, he said. The secretary-general of the Central Government Pensioners Association, Chandigarh, Mr Baldev Singh Dard, said that the Fifth Pay Commission had recommended that the standing committee of voluntary agency (SCOVA) be given status of the joint consultative machinery. Regarding the
SCOVA, 12 non-official members are nominated by the President of India. The meeting of the SCOVA is to be held after three months in which retirees of all departments are to attend the meeting. The agenda is to be set in advance and the same is discussed. “Incidentally, the government has made pension contributory last year. We demand that the contributory pension should also be extended for the Members of Parliament,” he said. The general secretary of the Northern Railway Pensioners Forum, Mr Jaswant Mahajan, said that the commuted portion of pension should be restored after 12 years instead of 15 years, as recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission. He said that this is being done in several states including Haryana and Punjab. “The pension adalats should be held as per the Railway Board’s orders. Also, first-class pass holders are allowed to take one attendant in the second class. We demand that the attendant’s definition be changed to companion and he allowed to travel in the first class,” he said. He demanded that strict action should be taken against those who had issued excess arrears to few railway pensioners leading to inconvenience for those pensioners. |
