BKU holds rally over pending power bills Jind, January 9 Mr Ghasi Ram Nain, State president of the BKU, presided over the rally. Mr Pishora Singh, State president of the BKU, Punjab, Mr Harkesh Malik, State vice-president of the BKU Haryana, Mr Ramphal Kandela, State General Secretary of the BKU Haryana, besides Mr Dharambir, district President of the BKU, Rohtak, Mr Vijender Singh, district president of Hisar, Mr Hundan Ram, district President of Kaithal, Mr Kura Ram, district President of the BKU, Kurukshetra, district President of Yamuna Nagar, Mr Sadhu Ram and some senior functionaries of the BKU also participated in the rally. Electricity bills of farmers was main issue at the rally. Addressing the rally, Mr Ghasi Ram Nain alleged that the government was coercing farmers to pay pending electricity bills. He said farmers were not in a position to pay the pending bills. He said the government should waive these and in future power should be billed at the tariff prevailing in 1992. He said that farmers were not getting remunerative prices of produce and had to sell it at a price lower than the support price fixed by the government. Mr Ramphal Kandela, General Secretary of BKU, Haryana, said that the recent announcement of the Haryana Chief Minister waiving surcharge and interest on the pending electricity bills of the farmers was not acceptable to the BKU. He wanted the government to decide the issue through a dialogue with farmers’ representatives. He said the BKU had set up a five-member committee for holding talks with the government on all issues of farmers. He said the government should invite the committee for resolving farmers’ issues. To prevent any clash between the police and the agitating farmers the district administration did not deploy the police in Kandela village. Roadways buses on the Jind-Kaithal road via Kandela village were also cancelled. The buses were plied via other routes. The private vehicles plied on the kandela road. |
Officials
deaf to phone complaints Panipat, January 9 The General Manager and Deputy General Manager at a press conference held on October 5 had assured the public that their grievances would be attended to on priority basis. But so far nothing has changed for them. At a press conference on January 7 also the department highlighted their achievements but were the least concerned about the complaints in the district particularly in Samalkha and Panipat where 1000 to 3000 lines are out of order at present. Village subscribers are running from pillar to post to get their phone working but the department seems to be apathetic to their complaints. A doctor of Bandh village (telephone No 579633) is paying his telephone bills even though his phone is out of order for the past four months. The latest received bill showed 247 calls made. Similarly resentment prevails among consumers of Aher, Rer-Kalan, Israna, Buana Lakhu, Kaith, Karad, Puthar villages. In the town, majority of STD/PCO owners have manipulated their computerised machines and local services at 95, 96, 98 provided on all BSNL lines have been allegedly stopped purposely to force people to dial STD codes to get their respective numbers in Sonipat, Karnal or more than 150 km. Even prominent places like bus stands and the railway stations are not spared by these STD/PCO owners. Complaints lodged with the department have yielded no results as no action has been taken against erring STD/PCO owners at the railway station. The District Telegraph Office has also allegedly tampered with telephone line “638001” on which only local calls can be made and all facilities of code 95 has been barred. Surprisingly no action has been taken against erring officials even after repeated
complaints. |
HUDA plots sold to encroachers for a song Sirsa, January 9 Mohan lal, an employee was suspended on the complaint of Chief Vigilance Officer in the matter. The district administration sealed the local HUDA office. The seal of this office was opened in the presence of Administrator HUDA, Hisar Mrs Deepti Umashankar. When contacted she admitted that the authorities had received complaints regarding anomalies in the working of local HUDA office. But added that she would be able to say something when her staff from Hisar checked the record in two/three days. Initial inquiry initiated the by district administration on the complaints of encroachment of HUDA land adjacent to SCF 22 CC-I had revealed that certain persons constructed a shops on the land meant for construction of public toilets. Sources revealed that the inquiry officer was not satisfied with the document of title and possession shown by the encroachers on the land. Orders of the inquiry officer asking to stop construction forthwith fell flat on the ears of the encroachers and they rather hurriedly completed the construction thereon. Market value of this plot is said to be Rs 40 lakh. Another plot in the local C-Block bearing number 105-B has also been sold at cheaper price although valued at rupees several lakhs. Similarly sale deeds of various plots in the C & D Block and industrial area-3 were executed and registered. According to the sources the deal has been finalised in a manner which creates suspicions regarding the sale. As certain persons involved in the deal are close to the powers, that be, outcome of this inquiry is awaited with eagerness.

No obvious injury marks on Abrol’s body Ambala, January 9 Sources said the preliminary report suggested that there were no obvious injury marks. The viscera was sent to Karnal for testing. The police was not ruling out the possibility of the assailants being aware of the fact that the victim was alone at home at the time of the incident. Sudesh Abrol, wife of Dr M.L.
