NEW DELHI, March 21 — The US President, Mr Bill Clinton, today made it clear that he would not mediate between India and Pakistan unless asked to do, but advocated four basic principles that could restore immediate peace between the two neighbours.

Carnage sparks off protests

CHATTI SINGHPORA (Anantnag), March 21 — The first attack of its kind on Sikh community, that left 35 persons dead, in the over decade-long militancy in Kashmir, left the community shaken as hundreds of them converged at the village today.

Curfew imposed in Jammu
JAMMU, March 21 — Indefinite curfew restrictions were imposed in parts of Jammu city today. Tension gripped the city and its adjoining areas when reports regarding the killing of 35 Sikhs reached here. People of various communities and political parties took out a procession in protest against the carnage. Transport services on the inter-district and inter-state routes were suspended.

NEW DELHI, March 21 — The massacre of 35 persons at Chatti Singpora in the Kashmir valley last night had its echo in talks between US President, Bill Clinton and the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee today with both leaders expressing outrage over the incident.
