Ludhiana: Meritorious students who scored more than 90 per cent marks in various subjects besides those who excelled in sports were felicitated at Joseph’s School. Dr Satya Nand Sewak from Punjab Agricultural University presided over the annual prize distribution function. The function began with a hymn, followed by a dandia performance. Class XI and XII students presented bhangra at the end of the event.

Training course concludes
Ludhiana: A three-week national-level training course on advances in resource conservation technologies for soil, water and crop productivity concluded at the farm varsity. Twenty-five people from different Indian Council of Agricultural Research institutes and state agricultural universities attended the course. In his address, the chief guest, Dr HS Dhaliwal, Dean, College of Agriculture, said the present scenario underlined a need for sincere efforts to evolve sound resource conservation technologies to sustain soil quality and crop productivity.

Non-teaching staff seek release of arrears

Members of the Private College Non-Teaching Employees’ Union organised a sit-in protest at Arya College protesting against the non-receipt of arrears. Despite the revision of pay on January 1, 2006, and revised grade on November 1, 2012, no arrears have been paid by the government, said ML Khullar a member of the union.

Mixed response to unexpected holiday at government schools

As the Punjab Government declared a holiday today in all government schools in the state due to the outstanding performance of Punjab in the National School Games held at Sri Anandpur Sahib, the children returned to their homes excited. Some of them complained against the move.

Fresh case of dengue surfaces, toll reaches 207

One more person tested positive for dengue today. With this, the total number of patients in Ludhiana hospitals has reached 207.

Urban health mission to benefit the poor

The Punjab Government will launch the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) from Ludhiana on November 21.
Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani, in a press release issued today, stated that cities with a population of 50,000 and above would be covered under the Centrally-sponsored scheme which aimed at providing affordable quality health services to the urban population with emphasis on urban poor and vulnerable population.
Man held with opium

The Khanna police have claimed to have arrested a elderly person and recovered 250 gm of opium from his possession.
As per information, a police party of the CIA, Khanna, was on patrolling in the area near Galwadi village. When the team reached near Galwadi, they spotted a person walking. When they signalled him to stop, he tried to return back but was later overpowered.
