Swachh Bharat campaign: Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra launched the Swachh Bharat campaign in urban and rural areas of the Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency by brooming the street in the Sirhind main market on Monday. Hundreds of SAD and BJP workers, along with representatives of various NGOs, participated in the cleanliness drive in different parts of the town.

Awareness camp for SCs: The Women and Child Development Department organised a camp to create awareness among SCs and backward sections of society about various schemes being run for them by the state and Central Government. Member of the Punjab SC Commission Dalip Singh Pandhi presided over the function. He also heard grievances of the people.

Legal services body awarded: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jalandhar, has been adjudged the best in North India for exposing violations of norms at the Gandhi Vanita Ashram, an observation home for girls. Chief Justice of India HL Dattu gave away the award to Rana Kanwardeep Kaur, Civil Judge (Senior Division)-cum-Secretary, DLSA, on November 9 at a ceremony on National Legal Services Day in New Delhi.

2 houses burgled : The thieves struck at two different houses at Vijay Nagar and decamped with valuable and cash during the intervening night of November 9 and 10. First they broke into the house of Sharanjeet Singh in Street No 2 and stole valuable things. Sharanjeet and his family were not at home. Then they strike at a house in Street no 3 in the same area. They decamped with cash of Rs 10,000. The owner of house went to railway station to receive his family members. The police registered a case.

Mobile snatched: Unidentified miscreants snatched a mobile from a woman, here yesterday. According to the complainant Simran Chopra said she was heading toward New Shivaji Nagar along with her aunt on a rickshaw, two miscreants came on a motorcycle and snatched her mobile on the tip of sharp-edged weapon and fled from the spot. The police have registered a case. 

Phagwara

5-year-old raped: A five-year-old girl was reportedly raped by one Jasbir Singh in Dhack Majara village last evening. The victim was reportedly playing outside her house when the accused coaxed her and took her into his house and raped her. The girl was admitted to the DMC Hospital, Ludhiana, in unconscious condition. Lassara SHO Parminder Singh said a case had been registered and the accused arrested.

CHAMBA

Man dies as car falls into ditch: A person was killed and three others were injured when the Alto car they were travelling in swerved off the road and landed in a roadside ditch near Khajjiar, 24 km from here, on Sunday night, as per a police report here on Monday. It said the deceased, identified as Kapil, hailed from Sioga village in the district. The injured had been identified as Vikas Kumar, Lucky and driver Yogesh, residents of nearby villages in the Mehla area, the report said, adding that they had been rushed to a nearby hospital. The mishap occurred due to the negligence of the driver of the vehicle. A case had been registered. 

KULLU

Three held with 840 gm charas: The police seized 840 gm of charas and nabbed three persons in two separate incidents here on Sunday. SP Surinder Verma said in the first case, Gurvinder Singh and Kuljeet Singh of Sangrur (Punjab) were arrested with 720 gm of charas near Dunkhra in the Manikaran valley here. In another incident, Umang Gupta from New Delhi was arrested with 120 gm of charas at Kasol village in the Manikaran valley. The SP said cases under Section 20 of the NDPS Act had been registered and both accused remanded in three-day police custody on Monday. Further investigation was underway, he added.

Child kidnapping case registered in Mandi : The police have registered a case of kidnapping of a boy at the Sarkaghat police station. In a complaint to the police, Rajinder Singh Dhalariya of Upper Dhalara in Sandhole tehsil here, said his son Shivam went missing on November 3 and he suspected that someone had kidnapped him. The police said a case under Section 363 of the IPC had been registered and further investigation was on. 

Physiotherapists hold meet:The Physiotherapists Welfare Society of the state held its third meeting here on Sunday. Local unit president Dr Sharad Malhotra said Dr Suhail from Mangalore was welcomed by Dr Manjul and Dr Ribha. Dr Suhail said a national-level workshop would be organised in Shimla in March next year. More than 2,000 physiotherapists would take part in it, he added. 

NURPUR

Biker killed in road accident in Nurpur: Pankaj Kumar, alias Ankur, of Ghatta (Chamba) was killed and two pillion riders were seriously injured when the motorcycle (HP-48 A-3498) they were riding on skid off the road at Baan near here on Sunday night. As per police information, the injured, identified as Sumit Kumar of Chaklu in Chamba and Karan Kumar of Chamba town, were rushed to the local Civil Hospital, from where they were referred to the Tanda medical college in Kangra. A case under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A, IPC, has been registered in this connection.
