Varsity VC releases book: Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh released book "Sangeetacharya Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha" written by Dr Ravinder Kaur Ravi, an assistant professor at the Music Department of the varsity. The book is based on music-related writings of Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha. She had earlier written two books-"Bikhre Moti" and "Itihaas Khandaan Raees Bagrian". Major AP Singh, great grandson of Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha, and head of the Music Department Dr Gurnam Singh was also present on the occasion.

Girl commits suicide: Rajneesh Kaur, a 25-year-old mentally challenged unmarried woman, reportedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire after sprinkling kerosene on her clothes at her house in Khangurra village on Thursday. Her mother was away to a religious place at that time. Rajneesh Kaur was taken to a hospital, but the doctors could not save her.

Dowry case: Guru Nanakpura resident Mandip Singh has been booked under Sections 498A and 406 of the IPC for allegedly harassing his wife Navneet Kaur of Nasirabad village for dowry. The victim alleged that she was being tortured for dowry. No arrest has been made so for.

Shopkeeper robbed: Five unidentified armed robbers snatched a bag containing 58 mobile phones, one laptop and Rs 1.5 lakh from Parveen Kumar of Sunnra Rajputa village on the Hadiabad road on Wednesday night. Parveen, a mobile phone seller, was returning to his village on a bike after closing his shop at Hadiabad Chowk when the robbers struck. The miscreants came on two bikes. A case has been registered under Section 392 of the IPC.

House burgled: Thieves decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh from a house in Pinjore. The family was away since November 1. Owner Ramnarayan today returned after getting information from the neighbours that the locks of the house were broken. The police have registered a case.
