Inflated water bills irk residents of Kalka, Pinjore
Kalka, November 6 The residents of Kalka and Pinjore alleged that for the last two decades there has been acute shortage of water and the Department of Public Health has asked them to install water meters to check wastage of water. They said when the department fails to provide adequate water supply the question of installing water meters does not arise. They further alleged that the department has imposed bills charging double rates on those who have not installed water meters. Notably the Punjab and Haryana High Court last year had issued directives to provide minimum of 157 liters per head. The residents said they have been getting 80 liters per head, which is less then minimum requirement. Advocate VK Bansal, President, Shiwalik Vikas Manch, has sent a notice to Department of Public Health in 2013. The official sources of Public Health Department said as per the norms fixed by the department, minimum supply of water to per person was 135 liters per day, whereas 101 liter per day was being provided in Kalka, which was inadequate. The notice also said installing of water meters in the area was not justified as the water was being supplied for 20 minutes in summer, so question of wastage of water does not arise. |
