Freak mishap leaves 4 dead
Lalru, November 4
Four persons, including three members of a Chandigarh-based family of industrialists, died in a freak accident involving a car and a Delhi-bound Haryana Roadways bus on the busy Ambala-Chandigarh highway near here this morning.

UT lifts ban on diesel autos
Chandigarh, November 4
Taking a U-turn, the Chandigarh Administration today lifted the ban on the entry of diesel-run autos into the city. The decision was taken by UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil. The meeting decided that a joint committee of UT Adviser and the Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Haryana would frame a policy to sort out the problem of diesel-run autos in consultation with the drivers. Till the policy was framed, the autos would be allowed to operate.

Fate deals a cruel blow to 2 schoolgoing sisters

A pall of gloom descended on the residence of the industrialist at Modern Housing Complex, Mani Majra, who, along with his wife and father-in-law, died in a road accident near Lalru. The deceased are survived by two schoolgoing daughters, who are in a state of shock.

Courier boy among 2 nailed by cyber cell

The cyber crime cell of the Chandigarh police has arrested two persons, including an employee of a courier company, who used to replace the motherboards of Apple's iPhones with duplicate ones that were sent to Bengaluru through courier for replacement. The duo had committed a theft of motherboards worth around Rs 7 lakh.

The UT District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the parking contractor of Elante Mall to pay Rs 20,000 as compensation after a camera was stolen from a car parked in the basement of the mall.

Diesel-run auto operators today staged a rally in Sector 25 ground here. The auto operators along with their families descended at the rally ground to protest against the UT’s move to ban diesel-run autos in the city.

Graft: Patwari dismissed
Mohali, November 4
A patwari of the Balongi circle has been dismissed on graft charge. Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said the administration had received several complaints against the official, Satnam Singh, He allegedly harassed people by demanding money for doing their work and did not perform his duties properly.

Six injured in group clash 
The injured undergo treatment at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi Dera Bassi, November 4
At least six persons were injured in a clash owing to alleged old rivalry between two groups of residents at Bhankharpur village near here today. The police said that Joginder Singh, his brother Kulwinder Singh, nephew Rajat and some other persons had heated arguments with Pradhan Singh, his two sons, Rinka, Udham Singh, Dyal Singh and others.

One dies as canter rams into divider
Kalka, November 4
One person died while another was seriously injured in a road mishap on the national highway near Mallah T-point in Pinjore the previous night. The duo was travelling in a canter, coming from Shimla side, that rammed into the divider. While the conductor, indentified as Pawan Kumar (50) of Ambala, died on the spot, the driver, Ram Dheeraj, sustained serious injuries.

Boy mowed down
Lalru, November 4
A 12-year-old boy was run over by a tractor-trailer during a religious procession at Lalru late last evening. The victim has been identified as Karan, a resident of Lalru Mandi.

NDPS case: Man jailed

A local court today sentenced a man to one year in jail in an NDPS case. The court sentenced Chhote Lal to one year jail for possessing 200 gram charas and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

4 cops held for extortion 
Chandigarh, November 4
The crime branch of the Chandigarh Police have arrested three Punjab policemen and a constable of the Chandigarh Police for extorting money from two Ludhiana-based bookies who were allegedly betting on the Indian-Sri Lanka one-day match held on November 2, at a flat in Sector 52. The policemen illegally raided the flat.

In yet another case of hit-and-run, a 50-year-old woman lost her life after she was hit by a recklessly driven car near the dividing road of Sectors 31 and 47 on Tuesday afternoon.

A proclaimed offender (PO), who was arrested seven years after he jumped bail in a cheating case, managed to flee from the custody of the UT police on Monday.

One held for impersonation

A Fazilka resident has been arrested for impersonating during the physical test of recruitment of constables. Giving details, sources in the police said the person was arrested for appearing in place of his friend. Harmesh Singh, a resident of Naya Hasta village, Fazilka district, was caught from Police Lines, Sector 26, while appearing in a physical test. Harmesh was appearing in place of candidate Niranjan Singh, a resident of the same village. .— TNS
