Owner locks health team in sweets shop
Ludhiana, October 21
High drama was witnessed at Sharma Sweets, Model Town, today when the owner of the sweets shop locked a team of the Health Department and the district administration along with himself inside the shop to prevent the from taking take the sweets samples from his shop. A case has been registered against the shop owner, Jaspal Singh.

Woman escort drugs trader at hotel
Ludhiana, October 21
The owner of a renowned sweets shop fell into a honeytrap. The woman escort sedated him and assaulted him before fleeing with his solitaire worth lakhs, Rs 6 lakh in cash and mobile phones. The shop owner was found unconscious in a room of a hotel. He was rushed to the hospital as he suffered multiple injuries, including cuts on his face.

Cops lay hands on tutor’s letter
Ludhiana, October 21
In the sexual abuse case, the police have got a four-page letter in which the woman tutor has admitted to having developed physical relations with the victim, a 14-year-old boy. The letter has a mention of some politicians and other bigwigs frequenting the house to meet her father, who is a government contractor.

ASI, constable booked in graft case 
Ludhiana, October 21
An ASI and a constable have been booked for taking a bribe of Rs 1.2 lakh from a resident of Aggar Nagar. The case has been registered following an inquiry conducted by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nilamberi Jagdale.

11 Mercs delivered on Dhanteras in city
Ludhiana, October 21
City markets were today thronged by shoppers eager to buy cars, silver coins and utensils on the occasion Dhanteras. While the sale of cars and two-wheelers surged compared to the last year, gold lost to silver in the Dhanteras sales.

Office-bearers of the Baba Vishwakarma International Foundation address a press conference. Baba Vishwakarma International Foundation members held a meeting on Tuesday. They said 11 personalities will be given Vishwakarma Ratan Award during a function on October 24 at Dana Mandi Gill Road. The programme will be organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of Baba Vishwakarma. This was stated by KK Bawa, chief organiser of the foundation.

Sahnewal urban estate project scrapped

Three die in train accidents
Ludhiana, October 21
Three persons died in separate train accidents at various parts of the city here today. One victim has been identified. GRP officer said 24-year-old Sadar-E-Alam was run over by a speeding train near Dholewal Chowk here this evening.

Ailing patient needs help

A 49-year-old patient (hospital unit no C-7496037) admitted to the Christian Medical College and Hospital here needs financial help. He was admitted to the hospital on August 25 and had underwent a surgery in the form of anterior cervical corpectomy (C6 level) and at present admitted to the Neurosurgery ICU and requires intermittent ventilatory support.

File goes missing from MC’s Building Branch

An important file has disappeared from the Building Branch Zone B of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation here. The file, according to the claims made by the MC, had details of money to be taken from a company as regularisation fees. The firm had failed to deposit nearly Rs 1.45 crore to the Municipal Corporation.

PWD declares govt school building unsafe
Ludhiana, October 21
Government Primary School, Kundanpuri, in Ludhiana. The Public Works Department (PWD) has declared the dharamshala building from where Government Primary School at Kundanpuri was being run as unsafe. The building was, earlier, declared unsafe by the District Education Department after an inspection by junior engineer (JE), Block mangat 2. Following the revelation, the DEO had ordered the school to be shifted to Government Primary School, Chander Nagar.

PAU NOTES
Sowing poplar plants no longer profitable: Assn
During a meeting of the PAU Tree Growers Association at the Punjab Agricultural University on Tuesday, members appealed to the farmers to stop sowing poplar plants as its cultivation is no more profitable. The president of the association, Dr Ranbir Sidhu, said poplar cultivation generates income ranging between Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 annually, whereas cash crop (paddy+wheat) generates income between Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000.
