Auction of nursing sites
GLADA nets Rs 8 cr
Ludhiana, October 17
The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) today sold two freehold nursing sites in Dugri and Sector 32-A on Chandigarh Road for Rs 8 crore at a premium of some 114 per cent over their reserve price of Rs 3,72,70,000.

A team comprising representatives of various wings of the government today conducting a raid at a factory unit, KB Print Pack, in Sherpur Chowk and rescued three children. The team was, however, taken aback when a child turned down the offer of free education, meal and stay.

Crackers on display at Dana Mandi in Ludhiana New crackers and fireworks are selling like hotcakes in the city. Buyers are spoilt for choice this year. An electric “anar”, which needs to be connected with electricity before it sparkles for about five minutes, doesn’t cause any pollution. “One can even stand above it,” said a stall owner. He said the fireworks were being liked by people as these were eco-friendly. Another low-smoke fountain also finds space in the markets.

1.25-quintal milk cake seized
Ludhiana, October 17
The Health Department today seized 1.25 quintals of milk cake from Gopal Sweets and Confectionery at Khanna. “The owner was using suji, milk powder and sugar. The sample has been sent for testing,” said Food Safety Officer Ravinder Garg.

Missing youth found dead
Ludhiana, October 17
A 22-year-old youth, who went missing on October 6, breathed his last in Phillaur due to an alleged drug overdose. The body of the deceased has been cremated by the Phillaur police. The relatives of the missing youth, identified as Amandeep Singh, staged a dharna on the Chandigarh road here today and demanded that Amandeep’s friend Jatin should be arrested.
