City sees spurt in theft incidents
Chandigarh, October 11
The city has witnessed a spurt in theft incidents this festive season. During the past 10 days, 17 vehicles have been stolen from different parts of the city while 14 incidents of theft at houses have been registered in various police stations. Since October 2, vehicle thieves have stolen 17 two-wheelers and cars, exposing the tall claims of the Chandigarh police regarding having stepped up patrolling during the festive season.

Health Dept raids sweets shops

In view of the festive season, teams of the UT Health Department today conducted raids at around a dozen sweets shops in the city and destroyed sweets and other items in quintals.

Bouncers step into cops’ shoes

With the Panchkula Police seemingly busy on election duties, bouncers will guard women in the city’s main market during the festive season. To prevent incidents of eve teasing, bouncers have been hired in the Sector 7 market.

Aarti wins Mrs Karva Chauth title
Mohali, October 11
To celebrate the occasion of ‘Karva Chauth’ in a special way, a fashion show of married women — Mrs Karva Chauth — was held at the Step 2 Step Dance Studio at Phase X here today. Out of total 20 participants, Aarti won the title of Mrs Karva Chauth, while the Best Catwalk title went to Monika.

As part of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Chandigarh NCC Group organised a peace march on Madhya Marg. The aim of the march was to spread awareness about the rights of girls and also to focus attention on the unique challenges that they face around the world.

Students display innovative projects at science exhibition

Brilliance World School, Panchkula, organised a science exhibition for students from Classes III to X. An art exhibition by students from Classes II to X was also held. There was an overwhelming participation from the students who displayed 45 exhibits related to science and also many exhibits of fascinating art.

In the last match of super league of the 28th All-India Postal Basketball Tournament that concluded today, Odisha beat last year’s winner Gujarat by 7 points. Odisha scored 56 points whereas Gujarat scored 49 points. Tamil Nadu secured the third position.

Land acquisition of school in Sohana: HC quashes proceedings

Turning over a new leaf in the history of one of the oldest schools in Sohana, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has closed the chapter of its land acquisition. Taking up a petition filed by Bhalwal Sarvhitkari Arya High School Managing Committee, a Division Bench of the HC has, in fact, quashed the land acquisition proceedings qua the institute.

The Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), Mohali, has ordered the attachment of the property of a promoter of a housing society and issued arrest warrants against him to compel him to comply with the orders of the adalat. The warrant of attachment and arrest warrants have been issued for October 13.

The Chandigarh Police have booked a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage. The accused has been identified as Rajat Dahiya, a resident of Sector 22.
