Craze for bikes lands youths behind bars
Chandigarh, October 9 The youngsters, Titu (19) and Happy (22), used to steal two-wheelers for taking joy rides before abandoning the vehicles in different parking lots. Last night, they were arrested by the police near Sector 40 while fleeing with a stolen motorcycle. So far, the police have recovered six stolen motorcycles. The police have found that both the suspects are drug addicts. Gurmukh Singh, SHO of the Sector 39 police station, said the accused used to steal two-wheelers mainly from the vegetable markets to take joy rides before abandoning them at different parking lots. The stolen bikes were recovered from different locations based on the information provided by the suspects during their questioning. “Both the accused are drug addicts and used to commit crime to so that they could buy drugs”, the SHO said. The suspects have also been involved in snatching incidents in the past. “They used to attempt snatchings on the stolen motorcycles. We are trying to get details from them”, said the police officials. With their arrest, the police have solved three vehicle thefts cases and six stolen vehicle have been recovered which were left abandoned at crowed parking lots in the city. Two cases of vehicle thefts registered at Sector 39 police station and another case registered at Sector 11 police station has been reportedly solved by the police. The police are verifying the registration numbers of the remaining three two-wheelers. Sources said that they are expecting recovery of more vehicles on the disclosure of the accused.

6 cases of theft reported
Chandigarh, October 9 Vishal Verma, a resident of Kharar, reported that someone had stolen his car from the parking lot of Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16. A case at Sector 17 police station has been registered. In another case, Lalit Kumar, a resident of Sector 11, Panchkula, reported that someone had stolen his motorcycle from the market in Sector 27, Chandigarh. A case at Sector 26 police station has been registered. The third vehicle theft case was registered at the Sector 34 police station. Charanjit Singh, a resident of Sector-30-A, reported that his motorcycle was stolen from the parking lot of Apni Mandi in Sector 46. In another case, Mithan Lal, a resident of Sector 7, reported that someone had stolen his scooter from Sector 32 market. A case at the Sector 34 police station has been registered. A house theft at the PGI complex was reported. Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Dhanas, reported that someone had committed theft in House No. 8-H/8 at the PGI complex. In another case, Vijay Kumar, a resident of Phase-II, Ram Darbar, reported that someone had stolen five mobile phones, an ATM and Rs 2,000 from his residence. A case has been registered at the Sector 31 police station.

BECC, Sonepat outfit enter cricket final
Patiala, October 9 Sent in to bat first, BECC put up 288 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets in 50 overs. Youraj and Haren remained unbeated on 50 and 30 respectively. In reply, Ambala boys kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for 178 runs in 39.4 overs. In the second semifinal, SCA, Sonepat, defeated Aurobindo Club by eight wickets to make it to the final. The Sonepat team restricted Aurobindo Club at 137 runs with Naman 29 and Pukhraj 25 being the main scorers. Gaurav claimed three for 17 runs.
