Abohar
4 held with drugs:Geja Singh of Middukhera village and Jarnail Singh of Alamwala village in Malout were nabbed with 20 kg poppy husk on Saturday. They had reportedly smuggled the drugs from Rajasthan. In another case, Jeet Singh and Naib Singh of Talwandi Sabu were held with 15 kg poppy husk near Ratanpura terminal.

2 bodies found:The bodies of jeweller Gajanand Soni (33) and his wife Sumitra (31) were found in a pond near Kalu segment on the Sriganganagar-Suratgarh highway on Saturday. Investigating officer Manoj Chaudhary said the couple was survived by three sons. A case has been registered.

2 arrested for murder:The Hanumangarh police have arrested Rameshwer Meghwal and his friend Angrej Singh for allegedly killing schoolteacher Roop Ram Meghwal. The teacher, who was killed over a monetary dispute, had been missing since Wednesday.

1 killed, 7 hurt in mishap:Raju of Rampura Matoria village died and 7 people were injured in a collision between a bus and a tractor-trailer on the Hanumangarh highway on Saturday. The body of the tractor driver was extracted by a JCB machine. The injured persons were shifted to Rawatsar Community Health Center.

Man stabbed to death:Unidentified persons stabbed a man to death at Chakk Mehra village near Dasuya on Saturday night. The victim, Diwan Masih, was found lying in the fields. He died at the Dasuya Civil Hospital. A case has been registered.

23 sleepers seized in Chamba
: Officials of the Forest Department seized 23 sleepers of deodar and kail trees in the Sikri forest beat falling in Chhatri block of Churah subdivision here on Wednesday, a report reaching here yesterday said. The sleepers were found lying on the fringe of the forest, the report said, adding that a search to nab the culprits was on.

Woman killed in mishap:
A woman was killed and six others were injured when the Alto car they were travelling in veered off the road and rolled down a hillside near Khajjiar, 24 km from here, on Wednesday. SP DK Chaudhary said the deceased Kanta succumbed to her injuries on way to the hospital. The injured were identified as Vishal, Vicky, Rajni, Santosh, Meena and driver Jaram Singh, all local residents.

Eight gamblers arrested: Eight persons were caught red-handed while gambling by the police near Goli, 15 km from here, on Wednesday night, police sources said on Thursday. The sources said Rs 23,640, along with playing cards, were recovered from the gamblers on the spot. The eight persons were booked.

Pedestrian held with charas: A team of police officials seized 460 gm of charas from a pedestrian near Goli zero point on the Chamba-Pathankot highway on Friday, police sources said here on Saturday. A case was registered against him.

84-yr-old woman dies of burns
: An 84-year-old woman, who received serious burn injuries while burning garbage at her house in Dari village on Friday, succumbed to her injuries at the DRPGMC in Tanda near here on Saturday, the police said. The police said the victim Pushpa Devi was burning garbage when her clothes caught fire.

Two killed as bike, bus collide:
Two persons were killed when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a bus at Badah near here on Saturday. The police said the victims, Kashish (22) from Gandhi Nagar and Rahul (19) from Shashtri Nagar of the township, were on their way to Kullu from Mohal when their bike collided head-on with a private bus near Badah. Kashish was killed on the spot, while Rahul died at the Regional Hospital here. DSP Sanjay Sharma said the driver of the bus had been arrested, a case registered and the vehicle impounded.

2 held with cannabis in Kullu: Two persons were arrested with 2.25 kg of cannabis at the Bajaura police barrier, 13 km from here, on Friday. The contraband was seized from Shamsher and Rajesh of Sonepat in Haryana, who were going from Manali to Delhi in a private luxury coach. SP Surinder Verma said both the accused had been sent to four-day police remand and a case under the NDPS Act registered.

SHIMLA
2 die as car falls into gorge:
Two persons were killed and three others seriously injured when the Maruti car they were travelling in fell into a gorge between Urni and Tapri in Kinnaur district, 220 km from here, on Friday night. The car, carrying five persons, was on its way from Panvi village in Bhawanagar to Sangla when the tragedy struck. The deceased were identified as Sanam Derja (30) and Dilchand (32), while the injured were Sher Singh, Bhem Sen and Vidya Chand, who was referred to the IGMC, Shimla. Deputy Commissioner DD Sharma said an immediate relief of Rs 10,000 to kin of the deceased and Rs 6,000 to the injured had been provided, he added.

Pathania is team manager: Kewal Singh Pathania, Vice-Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Forest Development Corporation, who is also the Chairman of the HP Power Lifting Association, has been nominated manager of Team India for the World Power Lifting Championship. The event is being held at Las Vegas in the US from October 14 to 21. As many as 32 participants from India, including three players from Himachal, will participate.
