3 held with poppy husk: Gurdeep Singh, Makhan Singh and Rampal, residents of Jalandhar, were held with 40 kg poppy husk as their car overturned near Nagrana village on Thursday. The police found the drug in the vehicle after the trio had been shifted to the local Civil Hospital.

Body found: The body of schoolteacher Roop Ram Meghwal, who had gone missing on Wednesday, has been found under a Fatehgarh sub canal bridge, near Kohlan village, 4 km away from Hanumangarh. Preliminary investigation indicated that distant relative Rameshwer, his wife Badu Devi, friends Angrej Singh and Net Ram, had allegedly killed Roop Ram.

DMC suicide: Stir on Nov 5: Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) would hold a candlelight march, seeking a probe into Dr Supriya's suicide, at Bhogpur on November 5. Supriya was a postgraduate student at Dayanand Medical College (DMC), Ludhiana.

Post-cleanliness drive, broom prices zoom: With PM Narendra Modi launching “Swachh Bharat Abiyan”, broom prices have gone up by nearly 30 per cent. “We have sold more than 100 brooms in the past two days,” said Raj Kumar who runs a shop on the Kotkapura road. The demand for broom (AAP’s election symbol) was never so high even during the Lok Sabha elections, said the shopkeepers.
