Online filing of VAT 20 return begins:
The online facility of filing annual value added tax (VAT) 20 return has been started by the Excise and Taxation Department. The last date for filing the return for 2013-14 is November 20. “Traders can upload their returns on time,” said taxation expert Jatinder Khurana. The government is making all departments paperless. Even the traders want that all details be uploaded online so that they need not visit the department again and again for submitting forms.

Patiala
Havildar arrested
:
The Patiala Vigilance Bureau has arrested havildar Sukhminder Singh, reader of the DSP City-I, for accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe from Sudarshan Singh of Markel colony. Sudarshan had complained to the bureau that Sukhminder was demanding Rs 10,000 for clearing his name in a brawl. A team headed by Inspector Randhir Singh arrested Sukhminder red-handed while accepting the bribe.

Phagwara
Lawyers protest:
Lawyers of Phagwara are on a two-day strike. The held a demonstration in front of the SDM office to lodge their protest against the stopping of construction of new chambers. The Bar Association, Phagwara, has appealed to the Bars of all districts to support and join them. Lawyers said the Bar Association, Jalandhar, had come out in their support.

Ex-servicemen protested outside the Mini-secretariat on Monday, demanding the payment of arrears under the one rank, one scheme scheme. They submitted a memorandum, addressed to PM Narendra Modi, to the DC. They threatened to intensify the agitation of the dues were not released immediately.

Govt blamed for suicide by disaster-hit trader
: The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) has blamed the state government for the death of one disaster-affected business man who allegedly committed suicide after not getting promised compensation. UKD spokesperson Manmohan Lakhera said the government had failed to provide compensation to people even after 15 months of disaster.
