Poster-making contest
: Students of Manav Public School won prizes in a poster making competition, which was sponsored by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. Rhythm Goel of Class X and Roma of Class XI bagged the first prizes in the competition.

Irrigation Secy bereaved:
Irrigation Department Secretary Kahan Singh Pannu was bereaved on Saturday night. His father Jathedar Jaswant Singh Neelpur (84) passed away at a private hospital near Rajpura after a brief illness. He is survived by three sons. He was cremated on Sunday at his native village Neelpur. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal described Neelpur as a disciplined and committed soldier of the party.

Sangrur
1 killed, 3 hurt in mishap: A motorcyclist died and three others were hurt when two motorcycles collided on Bhalwan-Bhawanigarh road near Kherri Chandwan village, about 12 km from here, on Sunday. Investigating Officer Hardeep Singh of Sangrur Sadar Police Station said Balwinder Singh of Kherri Chandwan died and Sukhwinder Singh, Gurjit Singh and Sandip Singh, residents of Kherri Chandwan, got hurt in the mishap. A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC.

Govind National College spikers lift trophy: Govind National College, Narangwal, defeated MBG Government College, Pojewal, by 3-0 to bag the trophy of the Panjab University Inter-College Volleyball Championship for Men (B-Division) that concluded here today. The winners named all the sets at 25-23, 25-20 and 25-11.

CM takes up rice farmers’ case with PM:
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drawing his attention to the heavy losses being suffered by farmers in Haryana due to the sudden drop in the purchase price of rice. Hooda has pointed out that the scanty rainfall this year had already increased the production cost of rice to a great extent and now the reduction in the purchase price of rice is dealing a cruel blow to farmers. Haryana incidentally is the biggest exporter of basmati in the country.

Girl’s body found in canal:
The body of Neelam, a resident of Buria village, was found floating in the Western Jamuna Canal (WJC) near Darwa village today. She had gone missing under mysterious circumstances from her house on September 18. Her father, Om Pal, had got a case of kidnapping registered. Om Pal said that someone informed them this morning about her body. The body was handed over to the victim's kin after a postmortem examination.

Chapprial village gets hand pump:
The LoC Brigade of the Cross Swords Division today provided a hand pump to Chhaprial village in the Akhnoor subdivision. Speaking at the ceremony, sarpanch of Chhaprial Dev Raj appreciated the Army for understanding the need of the people in the remote village. The hand pump will make up for the water shortage in the area.

Samba
live shell recovered
: The security forces today recovered a live mortar shells from a field in Samba district. A powerful live shell was recovered from the forward village of Abtal in the Ramgarh area of Samba district this morning and it would be defused tomorrow, sources said. As per reports a farmer discovered the shell while working on his fields at Abtal in the Samba sector this morning.
