Inter-district school games
:
The girl kabaddi team (under-19) of Ropar district was adjudged first in the super league matches held during the 60th Punjab State Inter-District School Games being held at Nehru Stadium. Ferozepur and Amritsar teams got second and third positions, respectively.

Woman falls off roof, dies
:
Ajmer Kaur (62) of Mauran village (near Dirba) died when she fell from the roof of her house during a scuffle with her "mentally ill" son on Monday night. The mishap occurred while she was trying to get her "mentally ill" son Janta Singh (30) down from the roof.

Relay fast: In protest against the non-acceptance of their demands by the state government, four sanitation workers of the local municipal council (MC) started a relay fast at the council office on Tuesday. They are on an indefinite strike since August 4.

50% interest subvention
: Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday said members belonging to scheduled castes, who take loans from the Haryana Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation in future, would be provided interest subvention of 50 per cent.

Disqualify MLA: INLD: The INLD on Tuesday moved a petition before the Speaker to disqualify its Rania MLA Krishan Kamboj under the Anti-Defection Law. Mullana MLA Rajbir Barara claimed Kamboj joined Gopla Kanda’s Haryana Lokhit Party on August 17 that amounts to disqualification.

INLD seeks probe: The INLD has demanded a high-level probe following directions by the Supreme Court to the Haryana Government regarding collector rates in Gurgaon. Party general secretary, RS Choudhary, claimed that the directions by the SC had vindicated party’s allegations that the Hooda government was facilitating the transfer of farmers’ land to the big builders at throwaway prices.—TNS

Farmers seek compensation:
Farmers of the district on Tuesday staged a protest demanding the state government to declare Hisar a drought-hit district. They also demanded compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre to the affected farmers.

CPS’ family escapes mishap:
The family members of chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Ram Kishan Gujjar on Tuesday escaped unhurt when their car met with an accident on Tuesday evening. Gujjar’s wife and daughter were going to Chandigarh from Delhi. When their convoy crossed Namastey Chowk, the escort vehicle applied breaks, but the vehicle collided with the divider.

3 held for looting bank:
The villagers helped the police nab three of the four miscreants, who looted Rs 5 lakh from a branch of Punjab National Bank at Bani village in Sirsa on Tuesday. The villagers chased them, and caught three accused.
