Abohar
3 held with poppy husk:
The police have arrested Pyaro Bai and her brother-in-law Balwinder Singh of Arniwala village and seized 20 kg poppy husk. In another case, Baljit Singh Tari of Duggar village (Moga) was arrested for smuggling 10 kg poppy husk in a Maruti car. The police said his accomplice had fled.

Kidnapping bid foiled: A minor girl’s parents stopped car-borne miscreants from kidnapping their daughter here on Thursday. The police said when three youths tried to kidnap Akshita of New Suraj Nagari, the girl's parents rescued her. The miscreants then thrashed the girl's parents and fled, the police said.

Rajasthan BJP revamped: Rajasthan BJP's new state president Ashok Parnami has revamped the party’s organisational structure. Eight state vice-presidents and four general secretaries have been appointed to deal with the organisational affairs of the state. Parnami has appointed Suratgarh former legislator Ashok Nagpal as president of Sriganganagar and Pradeep Beniwal president of Hanumangarh district. Nagpal belongs to the Arora community, which has a majority in the border district.

Jails to allow visitors on Rakhi
:
All prisons will allow visitors from 9 am to 5 pm on the occasion of Rakhi (August 10). The ADGP, Jails, Rajpal Meena, in a communication to jail superintendents, has instructed that special arrangements be made for the festival.

91 DSPs transferred: The Punjab Police have issued transfer/posting orders of 91 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) with immediate effect. These officers have been issued directions to join their new place of posting.

18 held for graft in July: The state Vigilance Bureau nabbed 18 officials red handed while accepting bribe in July. The bureau completed its inquiry in various cases and filed challans in nine cases during this period. It registered four criminal cases in July. An official said during the hearing of other cases filed by the Vigilance Bureau, the courts have sentenced three officials in bribery cases.

e-Panchayat project:
The district administration on Thursday introduced the e-Panchayat project and handed over computers to 62 village panchayats of Malout block. Malout MLA Harpreet Singh said all information regarding the village panchayats would soon be made available online. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Ramvir Singh said, "The panchayat secretaries were trained to use computers. Besides, the department will also arrange a special training camp for sarpanches." The ADC said this project would also ensure transparency in the working of village panchayats.

Phagwara
Woman drug peddler held:
The police arrested a woman drug peddler identified as Shakuntala of Chabbewal and seized 9 gm heroin from her on Wednesday night. The arrest was made during a "naka" near Kherra railway crossing, the police said.

Phone shop burgled: A mobile phone shop (Diamond Mobiles) was burgled near Old Sabzi Mandi on the Phagwara-Banga Road on Thursday morning. The burglars entered the shop and decamped with mobile phones worth Rs 17 lakh and Rs 18,000 in cash.

Two arrested for theft:
Two persons have been arrested in connection with a theft at the residence of NRI Jasbir Singh at Morinda on August 3. Jewellery and cash worth over Rs 20 lakh were stolen from the house of the NRI. Ropar SSP Varidner Paul Singh said the crime was committed by Jatinder Singh and Bhupinder Singh of Ghulal village, near Samrala. Jatinder is nephew of Jasbir's wife and both accused are cousins. Stolen gold weighing 420 gm, $5,000 and Rs 1 lakh were also recovered from them.

Sangrur
Cop killed in mishap:
Police Inspector Sunil Kumar (45) posted in Mansa district was killed in a road mishap on Wednesday night when a truck-trailer hit his car near Model Town Sheron village, about 4 km away from Cheema (Sunam). He was on his way back home to Sangrur from Mansa. He had joined duty in Mansa district about three days ago. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. A case has been registered.

Rs 1,000 monthly grant to ANMs:
The Haryana Government has decided to grant Rs 1,000 per month as mother and childcare allowance to auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) and lady health visitors (LHVs) . Besides, the uniform allowance of ANMs has also been increased from Rs 550 to Rs 900.

KAITHAL
Surjewala opens stadium:
Three of the five sports stadia being constructed in Kaithal have been completed, said Haryana Public Works and Industries Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala after the inauguration of the Rs 1.25 crore-Maharaja Surajmal Jat Stadium at the local Jat College. The minister said four local roads would be constructed at an estimated cost of over Rs 2 crore.

Mahendragarh
Ateli ex-MLA slams govt for poor roads:
Slamming the Hooda government for not paying heed towards roads here, former Ateli MLA and HJC leader Naresh Yadav has planned a 13-km padyatra from Kheri village to Ateli town in this district on August 8. The padyatra would cover 10 villages. He said all main roads of the district had developed potholes, leading to a rise in road mishaps.
