Forum directs Tata AIG to pay rejected insurance claim
Chandigarh, July 29 The forum also directed the company to pay Rs 15,000 for the mental agony caused due to rejection of the claim to the complainant and Rs 7,000 towards the cost of litigation. The complainant alleged that his car, duly insured with Tata AIG, had met with an accident. The vehicle was taken to Berkley Hyundai in Chandigarh for repair and the insurance company was informed. “After repair, the complainant requested the insurance company to pay the insurance claim, which was refused and as such, an amount of Rs 56,075 was paid by the complainant to the repair centre,” it was stated. It was the duty of the opposite party to verify about the entitlement of the no-claim bonus to the complainant at the time of issuance/renewal of the policy,” the forum ruled. pay-back time Tata AIG General Insurance Company has been asked to pay Rs 47,534 as the net payable amount towards insurance claim of the damaged vehicle, Rs 15,000 for causing mental agony and Rs 7,000 as the cost of litigation. |

Abhinav Bindra reaches hometown, avoids media
Chandigarh, July 29 Bindra, who reached Delhi yesterday, came to his farmhouse today along with his father. On his arrival, he opted to maintain distance from mediapersons who were waiting outside his farmhouse in Chat village. Talking over intercom, his father alleged: “With due respect, we will call you whenever we get a chance to interact with the media. You (the reporters) could have sent your representatives to Delhi to receive Abhinav and interacted with him there.” “Abhinav is not bound to entertain as per the wish of mediapersons or any publication. He will not be available today and the rest of his schedule will be conveyed to you (mediapersons) whenever there will be any possibility,” he said. After striking a gold medal, Bindra, during an interview recently, cracked a joke by saying that he wished to take up journalism as profession. He said: “Journalism is an easy job, I may become a journalist after my shooting career.” After witnessing today’s incident where a few mediapersons despite their efforts failed to get his picture, he may change his opinion. Bindra bid the CWG adieu after winning the gold medal in the recently held games. |

Swimming pools at PGI lying closed for over 2 yrs
Chandigarh, July 29 Even as 3,000 employees of the institute cannot use the swimming pool, the stagnated water also exposes people to mosquitoes causing dengue and malaria. In 2012, Chandigarh Tribune had highlighted how the two pools –- one for the staff and the other for children — at the city’s premier health institute had developed fungi on the surface of the unfiltered water. The members had stopped visiting the pool and eventually the authorities were forced to close them. There are four in-built filters in the pools. When contacted, an official spokesperson, said, “The special repair of the filtering system of the swimming pools is in progress and is likely to be completed in six-seven days.” — TNS |
