Woman strangulated:
A man, Vikramjit Sharma (35), walked into Chunawadh police station on the Sriganganagar-Padampur road and confessed to having strangled his wife following a dispute. Later, the police reached Chak 9A village and found the body of Shweta (32) on a bed with a dupatta around her neck. A case has been registered.

Man gets life term for murder:A court in Sriganganagar yesterday sentenced Raju Soni (36) to life imprisonment under Section 302 of the IPC and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. He was convicted for killing Sita Devi (42), with whom he had reportedly been in a live-in relationship for over a year. Both had lost their spouses in 2011.

Ludhiana
Man booked for selling stolen car
: The police have booked a man for selling a stolen car and duping a person for Rs 3.6 lakh. The accused has been identified as Sonu Sharma of Gill Road. It was in April that Mohanbir Singh, a resident of the Dhandra area, had lodged a complaint with the police stating that Sonu had sold him a 2008 Hyundai Verna car for Rs 3.6 lakh. Later, Mohanbir came to know that it was a stolen car. He approached the police. The accused is yet to be arrested.

Man hits wife to death:A man, Sonu (35), allegedly bludgeoned his wife Meenu (32) to death and dumped her body in a bed box at their house on the Tajpur road in Ludhiana. The mutilated body was found on Sunday from the bed box, two days after the killing. The body was located as foul smell had spread across the locality. Sonu has been arrested.

Muktsar
Man falls in sewage, dies:
Satish Kumar, a grocery shop owner, died after he fell in sewage water accumulated on a street of Ravidas Nagar in Malout town on Saturday. He slipped on the street, fell in the water and died. Local residents said the sewerage system of the town had collapsed long time ago.

Ropar
Man found dead:
The district police have registered a case against unidentified persons after a driver's body was found in the cement yard of Ambuja Cement Company here on Saturday. The deceased Ravinder Singh (34) belonged to Mataur near Anandpur Sahib. Sarban Singh, father of the deceased, said Ravinder was brought dead to the Civil Hospital. He alleged there were injury marks on his son's thigh.

Sangrur
ASI attacked in Sunam:
The Sunam police have registered a case against Naranjan Singh of Kalicharan Basti for allegedly attacking Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Satguru Singh and "tearing" his uniform. The incident took place when the police official had gone to Kalicharan Basti to investigate a complaint, lodged by a resident, Mohan Kumar, against Naranjan Singh. The accused reportedly attacked the ASI under the influence of liquor.

Tarn Taran
Woman dies of poisoning:
Parveen Kaur (35) of Sakhira village died on Saturday after consuming a poisonous substance by mistake. A case has been registered. Sources said the victim died at the hospital.

Office-bearers elected:The office-bearers of the district unit of the Punjab Government Drivers and Technical Employees Union have been elected. The elected persons are Kuldeep Singh, chairman, Pargat Singh Patti, president, Pargat Singh, general secretary (ADC's office), Daljit Singh, vice-president, Jaspal Singh, treasurer 
and Narinder Singh, press secretary.

Lawyers to strike work:
The Bar associations across Haryana will submit a memorandum to the High Court Chief Justice in protest against alleged highhandedness by followers of Sant Rampal during his court appearance in Hisar. Hisar lawyers would continue their strike on Monday and Tuesday.

Rohtak
BSP fields ex-student leader:
The BSP has nominated Ashok Arya, a former student leader, as its candidate from the Kalanaur (reserved) Assembly seat in the district. 

Sonepat
Man held for killing wife:The police have arrested Rajiv of Siwanka village for killing his wife Promila. Her brother Rajesh of Farmana village lodged a complaint that his sister had committed suicide. The police arrested Rajiv on Saturday. During interrogation, the accused confessed to have murdered his wife.

Anti-ragging panel formed :Prof RP Dahiya, VC, DCR University of Science and Technology, Murthal, has constituted a 16-member anti-ragging committee and a six member flying squad to ensure that there was no incident of ragging.

iExpert talk on diabetes
: Dr Jitender Mokta , associate professor of medicine, Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, presented a talk on ‘diabetes in pregnant women’ here last evening. In his talk, Dr Mokta said about 1 out of every 30 women was developing diabetes during pregnancy in India. He said after its detection, its management through diet, exercise and insulin should be done.
