45-year-old man found dead in Dugri

A 45-year-old man was found dead at a vacant plot near BCM School in Dugri, Phase II, today. The victim, identified as Ajmer Singh, a resident of Phulanwal, was spotted by morning walkers, who further informed the police about the incident.
Road construction at a snail’s pace
Jagraon, June 27
Continuous delay in the ongoing construction work on Dalla Road has annoyed the area residents. The work is being carried out by Jagraon Municipal Council on a stretch between Disposal Road and Agwar Lopon but the delay in completion of the construction work has been causing problems to the area residents as well as the commuters travelling on this road.
Illegal building demolished
Ludhiana, June 27
The authorities today demolished a commercial building at Kochar Market. The civic body had reportedly approved a residential plan for the building, but seven shops were being constructed there.
One of the inspectors, wishing not to be quoted, said the building owner was “well-connected”.

Roadside vendors have a field day as MC officials look the other way

“Rehri” and “farhi” vendors have encroached upon the roadside along Sidhwan Canal near Jawaddi Bridge, leaving commuters and pedestrians fuming and fretting.
Area residents say despite repeated complaints made to the tehbazari wing and senior municipal corporation officials, no action had been taken to remove the encroachments.

Anti-drug function
A state level function against the menace of drug addiction will be held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan here on June 28 with the objective of creating awareness against the use of drugs and other habit-forming substances. Deputy Commissioner Rajat Aggarwal said the Punjab Minister for Health, Family Welfare, Social Security and Women and Child Development Surjit Kumar Jiani will be the chief guest at the function. A play against the social evil of drug addiction will also be staged at this occasion.
