Murder accused remanded

P’kula couple booked for land fraud
Panchkula, June 8 The accused, identified as Rajeshwar and his wife Meenakshi, Gulab Singh, Devraj, Jasbir Singh and Sunil have been booked under the IPC at the Sector 20 police station. While Rajeshwar and Meenakshi reside in Sector 20, the other accused hail from different villages of Panchkula. The complainant, Mohinder, a local resident, alleged that he entered into an sale agreement a piece of land for Rs 8.5 crore. He paid Rs 84 lakh to the accused and received some documents, which allegedly turned out to be fake. The complainant stated that when he asked the accused to get the registry of the land done, the latter refused to do so. The police said the investigations were on. |

40-yr-old woman dies in mishap
Chandigarh, June 8 The deceased was identified as Guddi, a resident of Mauli Complex. The incident occurred when they were returning home after meeting a relative in Sector 20, Chandigarh. While they reached near the Kalagram light point, the speeding truck rammed into their scooter from behind. After the truck hit their vehicle, the deceased fell on the road and was run over by the truck. The injured was admitted to the GMSH in Sector 16. The police said the truck driver, Satish Kumar, was arrested and the vehicle was impounded. A case has been registered. |

Five arrested in separate drug cases
Chandigarh, June 8 The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police arrested a woman from near the cremation ground T-point, Sector 25, and recovered 100 gram of charas from her possession. Another woman was arrested from near Shahpur Chowk. She was found in possession of 100 gram of charas. In another case, the police arrested Lokesh Walia, a resident of Ram Darbar, from the Mauli Complex and recovered 500 gram of ganja from his possession. In yet another case, one Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Sector 46, was arrested from near Hallo Majra along with 328 capsules of prohibited drugs. Further, the police arrested Kailash, a resident of Sector 25, from Sector 38 (West) and recovered 25 gram of charas from his possession. Separate cases under the Narcotic, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered against the accused at various police stations and investigations have been initiated. Mother names victim’s five friends

Mohali, June 8 Notably, Gunreet Kaur (17) had gone missing from her Sector 90 residence on May 19. She had left behind a letter addressed to her mother. However, Gunreet’s mother Sukhdeep Kaur alleged that her daughter had been abducted, following which the police registered a case of abduction. In her fresh complaint, the victim’s mother alleged that her daughter had been kidnapped by these youngsters and demanded that the police should register a case against them. Mohali SSP Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti said cross-questioning of the youngsters, whose names have been given by the victim’s mother in her fresh complaint, was being done. “If we find anything substantial against them, we would include their names in the case,” the SSP added. “We have constituted a special investigating team (SIT) to locate the girl and have sent some teams to metro cities,” said SSP Bhatti. |

Chandigarh, June 8 In a close table battle, Hamza Akbar won the initial frames. Akbar, however, failed to keep the momentum subsequently frame over frame.
