Registration of outdoor patients doubles at CHC
Dera Bassi, June 2 While the health authorities are taking the credit by attributing it to the best health care facilities and services available at the centre, the public has a different opinion. People say that the absence of any good hospital in this area and costly health care facilities at private hospitals force patients to get treatment at government-run hospitals. Dr Daler Singh Multani, senior medical officer (SMO), said against 5,387 OPD registrations in 2013, the health centre registered 10,595 patients in 2014. On April 1, 2013, there were 248 admissions while the number increased to 463 in April this year. Against 50 deliveries, 60 minor operations and 39 major operations last year, the hospital registered 85 deliveries, 251 minor operations and 123 major operations in 2014. “The health centre has been attending a majority of road accident victims. We avoid preferring cases to other hospitals,” said Dr Multani. He also said in an effort to upgrade this 30-bedded health centre to a 50 bedded sub-divisional hospital, the Punjab Government has a proposal to acquire buildings of the Block Development and Panchayat Office (BDPO) and Land Mortgage Bank (LMB) adjacent to the existing complex. Designated as one of the best 100 community health centres having facilities, equipment and infrastructure on a par with a secondary health care centre across Punjab, the state government has already procured hi-tech equipment worth Rs 60 lakh in the past couple of months. Area MLA Narinder Kumar Sharma said Rs 10 crore had been released for the expansion of the centre. “For the upgradation of the CHC (which presently has a congested premises), it requires enough space. We are planning to shift the offices of the BDPO and the LMB to some other suitable sites to make space for the proposed buildings of the health centre,” said Sharma. “To acquire land for the construction of new hospital building at some other place will be a lengthy and tedious job. So, we are planning to expand the existing buildings of the hospital in its surrounding only,” he said. |
