Crop drying centres: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has approved setting up of five multi-crop drying centres with small maize dryers to ensure remunerative value of farmer's produce by reducing its moisture content. The centres to be set up at a cost of Rs 5 crore each will come up at Focal Point, Phuglana or Kangmai, in Hoshiarpur district, additional Yard Market, Kapurthala, and at new grain markets of Bhogpur (Jalandhar), Macchiwara (Ludhiana) and Nakodar (Jalandhar).Fatehgarh Sahib
Two killed in accidents: Two persons, including in a woman, were killed in separate incidents in Fatehgarh Sahib district on Thursday. Investigation officer Gurmeet Singh said scooter-borne woman Saravjeet Kaur and her son Rahul were hit by a speeding tractor. While Saravjeet Kaur died on the spot, injured Rahul was admitted to the Civil Hospital from where he was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. Lakhbir Singh was killed when a truck hit the motorcycle he was riding near Chuni. Separate cases have been registered. Sangrur
40 cases of liquor seized: As many as 40 cases of liquor were seized from a vehicle at a naka near Dharamgarh on Wednesday night. However, both occupants of the vehicle managed to flee. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the two unidentified persons.
