Man booked for 'killing' wife:Kalu Ram Nayak of Sadhuwali village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road has been booked after his wife Suman was found dead under mysterious conditions at their house on Saturday, The police said Suman's parents of Taja Patti village of Abohar had alleged that Kalu Ram had been giving conflicting statements about the death of their daughter.

Three bodies found:The body of a 25-year-old youth was found in the Malukpura sub-canal in Dhaani Bishesharnath village on Sunday. The Sriganganagar police found the body of Paramjit Singh (47) of Sadiq village (Faridkot) from a sub-canal near Chak 35BB village. He had gone missing around 10 days ago. The body of Surjit (50) was found in the sub-canal near 73NP village.

Pact with Oz institute:
Moga-based North West Group of Institutions and Institute of Project Management, Australia (IPM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for providing international education to students of the Malwa region. Lakhbir Singh Gill, chairman, North West Group, said the move would help local students join an economical bachelor's programme in Australia.

Award for schoolteacher:
Farzana Shamim, a lecturer in a government school at Chandbaja village of Faridkot, has been selected for the Malti Gyan Peeth Puraskar, 2014. The award consists of Rs 1 lakh, robe of honour and a certificate for excellence. The award would be presented to Shamim on May 29 in New Delhi on the 93rd birthday anniversary of Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle, an eminent educationist and social activist.

Woman killed for dowry:
A married woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws for bringing insufficient dowry in Islamwala village of Fazilka district. The victim, Jashanpreet Kaur, was allegedly electrocuted by her husband and in-laws while she was taking a bath.

Minor raped:
A labourer has been arrested for allegedly raping an 11-year-old daughter of his neighbour in Ambemajra village . Victim's father, who hails from Bihar, told the police that the accused lured her daughter on the pretext of giving her ice cream.

Electronics shop burgled:
A mobile and computer shop was reportedly burgled at Khera Road here on Sunday. Nishant Sehgal, shop owner, alleged the thieves broke the shutters of the shop and took away eight laptops, three computers, 31 SIM cards and 19 mobile phones worth Rs 4.35 lakh and Rs 84,465.

Gurgaon police roll out smartphone app
: The Gurgaon police have launched a smartphone app that will allow residents to have a direct access to the police. "Usually people dial 100 in case of absolute urgency. With this application, people have access to direct number and email ids of all beat level, police station and district-level officials," said Alok Mittal, Commissioner of Police, after launching the app recently.

EC allots kite symbol to Haryana Lokhit Party:
The Election Commission of India has allotted the symbol ‘Kite’ to Gopal Kanda’s Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP). Kanda and another senior HLP leader Jai Singh Bishnoi alleged that some political families of Haryana had amassed huge wealth from politics and in the process exploited the people of the state. Kanda said, “The Haryana Lokhit Party will bring in change and check the widespread corruption.”
