Designs on grandeur
Sussanne Roshan loves designs. In Ludhiana to promote a project, she shares how designs should be in sync with the natural surroundings of a place
Gurvinder Singh

She has been in love with design since the age of five; she went on to study interior design at California, US, at the age of 18 and is working on several projects. In Ludhiana for the promotion of the Naira project, for which her company The Charcoal Project collaborated with developers Emgee Group, Sussanne Roshan speaks about the latest project and more.

“I am promoting the project in Ludhiana straight after Dubai, which is a homage to the city of young entrepreneurs and the city of people who have a zest for life,” she says.

“Architecturally, going green is important these days,” she adds. While working on a design project, she first looks to maximise natural light and air. “There must a balance of energies,” she believes. “Even the Naira project in Goa, which is based on ‘villa concept’ comprising 12 villas located on a hill facing the sea and surrounded by forests on the three sides, is in harmony with nature and created on the theme of green architecture,” she shares. Working along with renowned designer Martin Waller, the villas are built on the theme of World Traveller and are inspired by pop culture. “They have a strong Californian influence, which includes the vibes of Goa, being just a hundred metres from the sea,” she says.

All designers get inspired from other iconic designers, but the designs should be adapted to the natural conditions of a place. With access to designs from across the globe through the Internet, a lot is simply copied and built here even though these are not according to the Indian climate. “Designers here should create original designs, as India has a huge talent of creative people," she says.

She feels design is a part of the life of every human being and every child should be promoted to express creativity. “Even my children are inclined towards designing and play architecture-based games on I-pads; create virtual cities in the games and read books on design as well as architecture.”

Working with Gauri Khan, another star wife, on the project, she shares that Gauri is a great friend of hers, “She has her own sense of style and design language, which she adapts according to situation.”

Many people feel that interior design is about getting colour combinations right and adding interesting furniture to the décor, but it goes much beyond that and entails technical knowhow as well as expertise along with aesthetics. Talking about the importance of work for women, she says, “Work makes you feel alive, gives you confidence. It is not just for earning money, but it keeps you going. Many women work just for charity.”

Poll khol!
The day when the voter in you is most excited is here — the result of your secret ballot. The Lok Sabha election results are sure keeping the excitement meter at an all-time high…
Jasmine Singh

You have already had your tea, asked for an early breakfast, maybe also checked for power-cut in your sector and probably placed a bet on your winning candidate! It’s here; all the speeches, all those Twitter fights, those promises, the hope of ‘maybe’ better governance…sees the light of the day. Did you just get a ping on an election result from a friend who is lucky to
find a seat in front of the television?

Well, this is how the rest of the day will proceed —talking and contemplating about elections! And guess even the youngsters who have gone all out in these elections are anxiously going through the wait and watch routine. So, will the day be dedicated to TV or people have found ways to get the dope wherever they are?

Fit action

Life will go on, nonetheless, election results is one thing that would be the buzz of the day. It might take your attention away from other things. Bobby Garg, director, Leena Mogre’s Fitness, is expecting more people around the TV sets than on the treadmill. He laughs, “People will combine exercise with the election action. This is going to be the talk in the gym as well. The hardcore fitness freaks wouldn’t miss the gym, but they would ensure they don’t miss out on the results as well.” Adds Sandeep Pandey, cluster head, Barbeque Nation, “We have special live counter, veg and non-veg (pasta salami), which is in addition to the regular menu. Then there is one free round of soft drinks for everyone before 7.30 pm or someone entering after 10.30 pm. We are offering special early bird rates on appearance before 7.30 pm and after 10.30 pm.”

Good news comes from JW Marriott as well. Jasleen Kaur, director HR, says, “We have a TV in the employee room where they can watch the results.”

Lonely planet

With no major Bollywood film release lined up (other than the nasal twang expert Himesh Reshamiya Xposing all) malls are expected to have a low footfall. Amit Singh, cinema manager, DT, is sure that he wouldn’t see many customers. “I wouldn’t be seeing a huge rush; I believe everyone would like to know who has won in their constituency and none would be interested in watching movies.”

Navaniat Singh, director of the Punjabi film Romeo Ranjha, whose release coincides with the election results, feels that youngsters will watch the results on the phone. “They will watch the film and check the results on their cell-phones. They wouldn’t sit in front of the TV. This doesn’t take away the fact that election result is the big thing for the day.”

Airtel digital TV and DTH service arm of Bharti Airtel is offering TV viewing free for its customers on its mobile application-Pocket TV, enabling them to stay tuned to live television action all day.

Who’s next?

Despite a clear mandate for one man (guess who!), there is still uncertainty about other members. This time, everyone is clearly interested in the results and the hype is understandable. Amrinder Singh Aulakh (Gags), member of the executive committee, Chandigarh Golf Club, says, “Of course people will be playing golf, but it will be the election results that will hold them up in between the game.” And if you can imagine the seriousness, then there are those who are also returning to their constituency to know the first-hand details of the results!

Amritpal Singh Sekhon has taken an official off from his bank where he works as a regional loan officer. He plans to spend the entire day in front of the TV. “I have also promised my friends who couldn’t get a leave to send minute-by-minute detail of the results.”

STAR TRACK
A fair share of controversy

At the trailer launch of the upcoming animation film Mighty Raju Rio Calling, Kajol has caught everyone’s attention for her fair and lovely skin. The dusky beauty is speculated to have gone under the knife to get a fairer skin. Kajol sparked a lot at the event and it gave rise to the rumor that the actress has gone under the knife for a fair complexion.

When Kajol debuted in Bollywood with Baazigar, she was very much talked about for her dark skin.

The mighty mom looked too fair than she normally is and it sparked the rumour that the actress has undergone melanin surgery to get a fair look.

Kajol looked beautiful in the yellow top, teamed with a black floral printed skirt.

Well, Kajol can now give a tough fight to Yami Gautam who endorses fairness cream.

Big names from the international industry have been associated with the BFI before and it is a huge honour for Farhan Akhtar to have been invited by the same committee to share his valuable knowledge and experiences on Films and Filmmaking.

A lot of colleges like IIM, IIT, Harvard etc have been inviting him for lectures. This time around the London Indian Film Festival has been keen to have him. Farhan's fans and popularity has grown two folds - in India and also internationally.

Parineeti loves Pizza!
Parineeti Chopra and pizza is a match made in heaven! We brought you here food fundas earlier and now we tell you all the specifics of her favourite foods along with how much she hates cooking! Read on and we are sure you will feel hungry after this!

Parineeti Chopra Favourite things

Food, travel and singing are my favourite things. Pizza is my weakness. Pizza and I were made for each other. I love Margarita, toast and cheese. If I've to ever cook a 'date dish' for my man, I'll serve him pizza. I love chocolates—Dairy Milk Crackle and Crunchy, which you get only in England. I dig dark chocolates, Lindt Silver particularly.

Weight control

Unfortunately, I'm on a diet for a few months because I need to reduce my weight for Kill Dil. Sadly, I gain weight fast. Therefore if I've had a pizza, or a dessert or even a chocolate, then I need to keep my diet in control for the next two-three days for the upcoming shoot of Kill Dil. But as soon as I get a break I'll binge on my favourite food. I hate controlling myself. It's the flip side of being an actor.

Tangy tastes

My favourite drink is nimbu pani! It's tangy and an anti-oxidant. I can gulp down glasses and still not put on weight. It beats the summer heat too.

No cooking

Since I live alone in Mumbai, I have employed a cook. No man has cooked for me (laughs). So, in that respect the most romantic relationship that I share is with my cook Govind. In Ambala, my hometown, my mother cooks for me. So, when I crave for my mom's food, I call her here. I don't like cooking at all.

Street favourites

I can't choose between street food and restaurant fare. I'm crazy about both depending on my mood. I love Delhi's tikki chaat and pav bhaji, which is a Mumbai specialty. I also love Mikki Bhai's vada pav. Recently, we were shooting in Lucknow for Daawat-e-Ishq. All of us gorged on the street food. What's better than a movie about food?

Let the show begin!
