Wait for day of counting over
Ludhiana, May 15
The district administration is all set for the counting of votes on the Punjab Agricultural University campus tomorrow. Counting will start at 8 am tomorrow and before it the staff will attend the last training session at 5:30 am. There are 22 candidates in the fray for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat.

PAU declares holiday today

Adhering to the directions of the district administration, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has declared holiday on May 16. The district administration has set up counting centres for all nine Vidhan Sabha constituencies at five locations on the university campus.

Local sweets shops all geared up for D-day

The countdown for the result of the 16th Lok Sabha elections is about to end. As the clock is clicking, residents, candidates, workers and supporters of different parties are waiting eagerly for the outcome. Sweets shops see it as a big business opportunity. Civic body shuts eyes to electricity wastage

On one hand the state power authorities are imposing power cuts of varying durations during day and night, on the other the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is wasting electricity by not switching off streetlights during daytime.

MC takes loan to pay salaries
Ludhiana, May 15
The Municipal Corporation is reeling under financial crises. To pay salaries to employees and officials, it took a loan of Rs 10 crore (over draft) against a fixed deposit (FD) of Rs 31 crore. High interest rate will only add to its burden. Sources in the accounts department said the MC was facing a tough time.

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) inked MoU with Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) to address zoonotic and environmental concerns.

Poll duty: Cops demand honorarium

Police officers who worked overtime during the elections have demanded honorarium. Duties on special checkpoints, enhancement of night vigil, combing operations and round-the-clock patrolling in far-off places were identified as extra duties on account of the Lok Sabha poll, for which no honorarium was paid by the administration.

Photography, rangoli making, play mark Nurses Week
Ludhiana, May 15
Dayanand Medical College and Hospital's College of Nursing celebrated Nurses Week from May 12 to 17. Workshops on the theme "Nurse-A force for change" were held. Various competitions such as badminton, photography, rangoli making, flower arrangement, western and folk dances were organised throughout the week.

State Info Commission to decide on status of DMCH, CMCH
Ludhiana, May 15
The State Information Commission, Punjab, will take a call on the status of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). In 2012 and 2013, CMCH and DMCH, respectively, were declared a public authority by the State Information Commission. Following this, both the hospitals moved the High Court.

Creativity at its best

Dance, comedy and a dazzling fashion show by students marked the annual day celebrations at the International Institute of Fashion Design. Hip-hop, Bollywood dance, bhangra and Spanish dance were followed by designer collections by students during the annual function of the institute 'Essence 2014'.

Training course
PAU Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering will organise a two-week hands on training course on “operational and programming of cnc machines” from May 19 to 30 for agricultural machinery manufactures, ITI pass out and educated village youth. Training will be provided on CNC lathe, CNC milling, CNC drilling, EDM machine and latest manufacturing technologies.

Ludhiana: The Bhutta College of Engineering and Technology has collaborated higher educational programs with the Tata Consultancy Services Limited. The initiative has been taken with intent to facilitate rural educated youths to find jobs in field of information technology and allied fields.
