Mystery shrouds girl’s death

A 22-year-old BA final-year student of Government College, Sector 42, died under mysterious circumstances at a room in a guest house in Sector 43 this morning. The victim, Babita Kashyap, a resident of Shanti Nagar in Mani Majra, had gone there with a youth who was known to her for the past two years.

The Panchkula police today unearthed a scandal of a "rape victim" involved in the sensational Morni rape case by arresting her for allegedly cooking up a story and then demanding for Rs 1.5 crore to withdraw the case.

Woman found murdered in Baltana
Zirakpur, May 14
A 32-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend in Ravindra Enclave, Phase I, at Baltana near here. Her semi-naked and partially charred body was found on the floor of her house by the police this evening.

Differences refuse to die down in BJP’s city unit

Differences within the BJP's city unit do not seem to end. After witnessing a revolt over the party’s choice of candidate for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, party leaders and workers are annoyed at the list of counting agents sent to the Returning Officer (RO) by BJP leader Satya Pal Jain, who is also Kher’s election agent, without consulting the party’s city president Sanjay Tandon.

UT police begin investigation
Chandigarh, May 14
The Chandigarh Police have initiated a probe into the alleged corruption in its transfers. An SSP-rank officer is looking into a complaint in this regard. As a petition filed in public interest on the alleged irregularities in transfer policy by constable Jagjeet Singh came up for hearing today, the Punjab and Haryana High Court observed that action on the alleged irregularities pointed out by the petitioner was already in progress.

PU invites online applications for MEd

Rape accused doctor surrenders
Chandigarh, May 14
More than a week after the UT police booked a doctor for allegedly raping a woman at Hotel Shivalik View here, the accused was finally arrested today after he surrendered before the police. The doctor was taken for a medical examination and later, produced in a court, which sent him to judicial custody.
