Professionalism needed in football, says Scottish coach
Chandigarh, April 27 He was in city to conduct a two-day workshop of Baichung Bhutia Football School (BBFS). The 27-year old professional coach feels that the Indian soccer culture could be uplifted only in the hands of professionals. The talent needs to be nurtured through professionals, rather than getting fed by corporate world. To learn basics is the real deal is a pre-requisite. Maintaining a right frame of mind and learning from heart is more important than participating in tournaments and leaving from home. Here, in BBFS, I always stress to tell my fellow coaches to impart basics among the young players, said Grieve. He also stressed that the children should be put into play at the right age, so that they can relate themselves to the game and get to grab things more quickly. In India, children join sports at a late stage and it is a major problem. Between 7 to 10 years is the right age to learn the game. Usually people start taking their wards seriously whenever they score goals. Otherwise, they think that playing is a waste of time. If a child gets nurtured in good environment and gets good field-education, he can grow more than Baichung Bhutia or Sunil Chhetri, added Grieve. When asked about present scenario of Indian soccer with the improved facilities than past. The Scottish coach mentioned that there is a lack of exposure at club level soccer. The club-culture should be changed and followed in a proper manner. The span should be extended to more months so that teams could stress on learning from their mistakes and can attend more practice sessions. An improvement at the club level will uplift the standards and attract more people, mentioned he. Over his take on Indian Soccer League (ISL), he said, Everyone has his own take but as per my thinking, soccer is different from cricket. Soccer is of 90-minutes and one should not take it as an investment deal, expressed Grieve. |
