JE, officials  of PSTC booked
Dera Bassi, April 24
The police have booked an Amritsar-based resident, a Junior Engineer (JE), and some unidentified officials of the Punjab State Tubewell Corporation (PSTC) for allegedly grabbing a public property located at a prime location in Devi Nagar village on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway.
An unidentified manager of the Amritsar-based resident has also been booked for his involvement in the crime.On a complaint of Gurvinder Singh, a panch of Devi Nagar, the police have registered a case against Gurjinder Singh, a Rani ka Bagh, Amritsar, Randhir Singh, JE, a manager of Gurjinder Singh and certain officers of the PSTC. A case has been registered. In a complaint to the police, panch Gurvinder Singh, alleged that Gurjinder Singh in connivance with Randhir Singh and other officers of the corporation illegally occupied a chunk of land in Devi Nagar village having a deep tubewell sunk by the PSTC for irrigation purpose in 1981. No arrest has been made in this regards as yet.The superintendent of police (SP), Anil Sharma, said, “I will check it up from the SHO of Dera Bassi. The suspects will definitely be arrested but only after the Lok Sabha elections, as the police forces are busy these days,” he said. — TNS

Financial Commissioner gets week’s time

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today set a week’s deadline for the Punjab Financial Commissioner (taxation) to pass a speaking order on the issue of renewing wholesale licence for Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) of a Ropar-based contractor. The directions by the Division Bench of Justice AK Mittal and Justice Jaspal Singh came after petitioner M/s KD Sharma and Company alleged discrimination.

Two persons accused of murdering a history-sheeter were acquitted by the district court today.

Insurance co. penalised

Future General India Insurance Company Limited has been penalised for rejecting claim on a damaged tractor. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the company to pay Rs 10,000 compensation for mental agony along with insurance claim of Rs 17,000 to the complainant.
