MC lacks in planning, public suffers

The civic body hardly plans before initiating development works. A work is started in an area and then the contractor is suddenly asked to move to some other place. Residents remain at the receiving end of this poor planning by the civic body.

Women and children residing in colonies missed the hospitality extended by candidates during the civic body elections held nine months ago. Candidates contesting the elections for the posts of panch and sarpanch had offered soft drinks, sweets and junk food to women and children in villages.

Centre’s Mid-Day Meal Scheme not a master stroke

The Mid-Day Meal Scheme of the UPA-led Central Government, which was projected as a master stroke, has failed to fulfil its objective to control the school drop-out rate. The division of funds between state and Centre governments has proved as a big hurdle for the proper implementation of the scheme.

Last date for filing quarterly VAT return extended, traders welcome decision
Ludhiana, April 23
The last date for e-filling of quarterly value-added tax (VAT) return has been extended till May 31.
Earlier, the last date was April 30. However, no changes have been made in the last date of payment of the tax.
Flames of neglect engulf Fire Dept

The ailing fire department has failed to catch the eye of candidates. The department has been facing neglect for the past many years.
No steps have been taken to upgrade it. There is no hydraulic ladder, which makes high-rise buildings vulnerable to fire incidents. Even the fire brigade staff do not have safety equipment, including masks.

After her innings in Bollywood, Zarine Khan will be seen in a pure “desi” role in Punjabi movie “Jatt James Bond” that hits the screens this Friday.

Rajat Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer, said the Food and Civil Supplies Department would not procure wheat from grain markets on April 30.
