4 held for looting shop :
The Sriganganagar police have arrested four persons of Punjab on the charge of looting a jewellery shop. The DSP said a jeweller, Gyasudin, had hired the accused — Rakesh Soni of Ferozepur, Karan Chadha, Rajpreet Singh Kot Dharma and Jagsir Singh all of Mansa district — to rob the shop.Govt employees protest:

Kala Ram Meghwal of Kikkarkhera village here has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for rape.
The police said he had taken away a 10-year-old girl from a meeting during village panchayat elections in July last year and raped her. A case was registered on the basis of complaint lodged under Section 376 of the IPC by the girl's relative, Jagsir Singh.

PU postpones exams: The Panjab University (PU) has postponed the examinations scheduled for the evening session on April 16. Prof Parvinder Singh, PU Controller of Examination, said the decision had been taken due to administrative reasons. The new dates would be notified later, he said.

Man gets life term: District and Sessions Judge GS Bakshi on Friday awarded life imprisonment to a man for strangulating his wife to death. Swaranjit Singh of Lopo village of Moga district had killed his wife Sukhwinder Kaur on the intervening night of August 10 and August 11 in 2012. Bhupinder Singh, the woman's brother, in his police complaint, had stated that on the fateful day, Swaranjit had quarrelled with his sister and strangulated her to death with a piece of cloth.
