10 cartons of country-made liquor seized in Kalka
Kalka, April 1 The police party, headed by station house officer Lalit Kumar raided a dhaba in Karanpur village of the Pinjore block on NH-21-A and recovered 10 boxes of country-made liquor. The raid was conducted by the police team following a tip-off. The police conducted the at the dhaba at around 12 am on Monday night. The wine was recovered from the possession of Labh Singh, owner of the dhaba. A case has been registered in this regard, said the police sources. Villagers protest against opening of liquor shop Hundreds of residents, including women of Surajpur locality, headed by sarpanch Yogender Thakur held a protest against the opening of a liquor shop in their locality. Protesters also raised slogans on the occasion against the vendor of the liquor shop. The liquor shop has opened on National Highway-5, Pinjore-Panchkula highway. Villagers alleged that the shop is merely 20 meters away from the highway. They maintained that according to the directions of the High Court, the liquor shop should be at a distance of at least 30 meters from the highway. |
Charges framed against three
Chandigarh, April 1 Delhi CBI had registered the case against the Chandigarh-based construction firm owner and two former managers of the bank. CBI also named 'Akriti Constructions and Development', as a party. On May 10, 2013, CBI had registered an FIR against Tarsem Lal Singla - owner 'Akriti Constructions and Development' and Inderjeet Singh and Gurcharan Singh Batra, both mangers at the Punjab and Sind bank. Tarsem Lal Singla allegedly duped the bank of Rs 35 crore in a credit scheme by submitting bogus guarantees. Singla took a loan of Rs 35 crore from the bank for the construction of a hospital. He was required to deposit 3.5 crore as bank guarantee. However, flouting the bank rules Inderjeet Singh and Gurcharan Singh Batra issued the loan without Singla depositing the amount. |

Wife, son among three arrested for man’s murder
Chandigarh, April 1 The murder took place on March 21 and body of the victim, 45-year-old Bheem Sen, was found in Palsora. Police had rushed the victim to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police said investigations by the police revealed that Ajay had hacked Bheem Sen to death following a dispute over possession of the house which was jointly allotted to Bheem Sen and his wife Savita. As Savita started staying with her lover Ajay, they decided to take over possession of the house from Bheem Sen. On the day of murder Savita, Ajay and Gautam had gone to Bheem Sen’s house when a dispute arose over the papers of the house and both Ajay and Bheem Sen were drunk. Ajay hit Bheem with a rod on his head and later dumped the injured in the park. Police found an eyewitness who told them that the deceased had borrowed Rs 200 from him on that day and he had seen the three accused with him. Police questioned the three suspects who spilled the beans. |

Chandigarh, April 1 Tarun took the charge and netted 24 goals while Sanju extended the lead with his 12 goals contribution. For losing side, Manvapreet lead the team scoring 11 goals whereas Barjesh and Aman netted seven goals each to reduce the defeat margin.

16 Rajput celebrates golden jubilee
Chandigarh, April 1 General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, who is also Colonel of the Rajput Regiment, interacted with the war widows of the unit, listened to their grievances and assured them that all that was necessary would be done to alleviate the same. He said as part of a large family in uniform, we must learn from the rich source of experience of the veterans and must endeavour to ensure that veterans are looked after and war widows receive the deserved honour and place of pride in society. The unit was recently awarded the Army’s Commander’s Unit Citation for its commendable tenure in the Siachen Galcier. In its history of 50 years,16 Rajput has participated in all major campaigns of the Indian Army. It took active part in the 1971 operations in the eastern sector, has been actively deployed on the Line of Control as well as in counter insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and in the northeast. |
