Arms, ammunition seized:
The police on Tuesday seized an AK-47 rifle with 24 live cartridges and a .9 MM pistol during a raid at Balwant Singh's house at Rawla Mandi in Sriganganagar. Superintendent of Police (SP) Hari Prasad Sharma said Balwant (35) was earlier arrested in 2006 under the Arms Act. Sources said Balwant had told the police that he had brought the weapons about two years back from his sister, who lives in Punjab. The claim will be probed by a special team that has been rushed to Rawla. Balwant, however, has not revealed why the weapons were brought from Punjab.

Blood donation camp: A blood donation camp was organised by the District Red Cross Society at Nehru Memorial Civil Hospital here. About 100 units of blood were collected. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rajpal Singh exhorted people to make donating blood at least thrice a year a habit to save lives. Civil Surgeon Baldev Raj, Senior Medical Officers Lal Chand Thakral and Jagdish Chander Takkar clarified misconceptions about blood donation.

Daylong power cut in city:
The city residents remained without electricity and water for the entire day. The power supply was snapped at 9 am and resumed at 6:30 pm. PSPCL officials said the department was carrying out major repairs to prepare for the summer season.

3 peddlers arrested:
The police have arrested three drug peddlers identified as Honey Kumar of Sukhchain Nagar, Sandeep Kumar of Bedian Mohalla and Jatinder Kumar of Khatti village. The police have seized 185 gm of intoxicant powder from their possession.

3 booked for fraud: The police have booked three members of a family for allegedly duping a man of Rs 1.2 crore on the pretext of selling him a filling station. The complainant, Jarnail Singh of Bahar-Majara village, alleged the accused, Sukhwinder Singh, his wife Rajwant Kaur and son Gurmehar Singh of local New Model Town, took money from him, but sold their property to a third person.

Karishma of DAV College wins declamation contest: A declamation competition was held at DAV College for Girls here today. Karishma, a student of BSc second year got the first position while a second year student of Mass Communication, Mohini, and first year student of the same course Payal bagged the second and the third position, respectively.
