Click & tell
Gone is 2013 and the year of 'selfie'. It's 'braggie' that rules the roost now. It works two ways, while your self love is well preserved; it makes your so called 'friends' jealous too.
The latest apps make sure you know exactly when, who is doing what and where, and the selfie-ers and bragg-ers leave no stone unturned to make you feel 'left out' while they are having so much fun! Go to your most trusted social networking site, and sure you will find a picture of a 'friend' lounging by an azure pool making you wonder if the splash he or she had in the pool afterwards was better or the cocktail he or she was just about to sip. Worse, the moment these 'friends', whose numbers run in hundreds, land at their holiday spot, they start sharing the pictures instantly. So right from airport lounges to the locales — snow-capped mountains, spectacular sand dunes to breathtaking beaches you have it all descending on your device making you wonder why are you not having fun? There are thousands of happy holiday makers who want to share the fun with their friends. Entrepreneur Ashish Kapoor's recent family trip to Goa turned out to be good outing for all friends in his list. Right from the itinerary to the churches, beaches and eateries in this popular holiday destination, everything was updated keeping up with real time. "Why not," asks Ashish, "Your gadgets assist you to make a photo diary of your holiday. It makes sense to treasure the moments with your kids, for this is something for them to look back when they are grown up. And, a click lets you share it with the world, easy." Well, you and me as well celebrities, have not been able to resist the temptation this one click offers. However, bragging has a flip side too. Says Supriya Pathak, mother to two, "Home and kids keep me so occupied that only outing for which I have energy left for is on Facebook. To begin with I loved to see my friends, their changed appearances, their growing family; now it breaks my heart to see them all enjoying life while I am caught in the daily rut." Supriya is not alone. Everything was as hunky-dory for Suvaina Sharma, a BPO employee. Right from her cubicle to outings with colleagues got a prominent place on her timeline before her frail health made her quit night shifts. Sitting at home, thinking of plan B, Suvaina is suffering withdrawal symptoms. "While I would be so busy with my phone pinging each moment annoying me no end; I feel so lost now. And then there are all my old colleagues going out, having the time of their life." While selfie moments have reached their crescendo with Obama and Pope Francis, others like Rihanna and Beyonce with Blue Ivy have lent a new meaning to braggeis all together. A survey by a British travel portal shows that not only one in 10 users is a 'braggie regular' but also that "millions of people post braggies within ten minutes of arriving on a luxury vacation". As almost everyone seems like happy clicking one, let your guards down and be a
bragg-er…
Selfie vs braggie
While selfie is self taken photograph where the person is in focus, a braggie cares more about the locale one is in. Put on social networking sites, braggie boasts of the interesting places one has been to. Popular stars have lapped up the trend to keep their followers hooked. Be it Rihanna in Hawaii flaunting her bikini body or Kardashians enjoying a sunny holiday in Greece, you exactly know today who is holidaying where.
Braggie at best

Words of wisdom
Having authored books on art, theology, poetry and architecture, his career achievements are more of social contributions, making a mark where it is most needed and making a difference where it matters. Former principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture, Dr SS Bhatti's latest offering Golden Temple: Marvel of Architecture further enriches the subject. "There is very little written literature on Sikh architecture…Moreover, among whatever is available; there is confusion among scholars of all kinds, including the Sikh scholars, as it is believed to be derived from Rajputana, Islamic and Hindu architecture," he shares, during a discourse and book release function of his latest Words and Golden Temple: Marvel of Architecture, organised by Regional Institute of English, Chandigarh Administration.
His involvement with the book dates back to 1985 and started from a seminar and compiled in a book. "I had thought of the same. In fact, when they wanted an article on Sikh architecture for Encyclopedia, I had worked with the premises in mind." The article remained unused and during the course of time, he read, researched and redefined several things. The seminar paved way for a doctorate thesis, which later gave way to the book. "What started with a seminar in 1985 culminated in 2008." The Golden Temple, apart from being a historical monument, remains an architectural wonder in ways more than meets the eye. "I have studied around 45 sanctuaries right from the Egyptian architecture. The dome of Golden Temple is unlike any other in the world. It is elliptical and not round which is one of the main features." He adds, "Humility is a cardinal principal of Sikhism as taught by Guru Nanak. The elliptical dome is a symbol of that." While the eco-friendly architecture may have gained momentum in the recent past, the concept has been an integral part of the ancient wisdom. "At that time also they thought of keeping it environment friendly. The beri trees were never removed and the pond was also allowed to stay as it is. The geologists believe that the pond once used to have sulphur springs." Word power
There are also the mystic and inspiring Words; wisdom originates in reflection on the divine vis a vis secular, the four-in-one anthology that among other things talks about author's reflection on the beauty and bounty of life and nature. An architect who has a way with words! manpriya@tribunemailo.com

Fresh and fancy
Poonam Bindra A delightful gastronomical visual treat greets you when you step into the newly launched restaurant by Hyatt Regency in Ludhiana called Kitchen @ 95.
The scene is of the adventurous gourmands exploring the four specific food stations with the best of the world cuisine in a contemporary setting -the first one with sumptuous cold meat cuts, salad greens and different kind of cheese and all to be had with myriad types of accompaniments in the form of sauces and dips. Here the novelty for the discerning eye is Napoli pork salami and the salad veggies in the smoked pepper sauce. Further down the buffet line is the Pan-Asian extravaganza complete with many Asian delicacies with a few typical Indian ones and the eastern delights in which the Thai chicken curry and the chicken picatta with farm cheese, and dim sums are quite popular. "The chicken massaman curry here is so delightfully pungent and creamy," quips Sabrina Pahwa. It seems the Ludhianvi foodies are revelling in the new type of offering in the buffet line-up. "The counters are all live and our guests have an option of ordering what they want to have. So, we call it a customised buffet," informs Ravneet Gurum, the public relations officer of Kitchen @ 95. And what next? A foodie station devoted to Italian cuisine with all kinds of pastas and spaghettis made fresh and of course according to your taste. When a guest executive Joy Sebestian comments on freshness of the raw veggies, the answer is, "we believe in the 'farm to table' concept and our chefs many times go to select the fresh produce themselves." The sprawling area in beige, white and brown of Kitchen @ 95 seems to be a popular destination for family gatherings and couples too. "We are from Ludhiana itself and we came here for one night and have stayed especially for the enjoyable breakfast and the dinner," quip Richa and Gautam while they savour the hors'd oeuvres--honey chilly stem and bean bruchetta and also give the thumbs up to the fish orly which goes well with a cranberry juice laced with vodka and garnished with a orange slice. Glenn Peat, the general manager of Hyatt Regency, adds on a somber note, "I want to create a Ludhianvi platter so that the folks here are proud of their own culinary skills and not always praising Amritsari or Delhi food, for this city has its unique character--full of gusto and a particular yen for good living. Atta boy! Incidentally the name Kitchen@95 is derived simply from its location on the National Highway. The gastronomical route aptly ends with a stop at the dessert station where one can appease one's sweet tooth by tasting mango marquise or the citrus baked cheese cake, besides our Indian sweet specialties. The 24-year-old We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together hit maker - whose former boyfriends include Jake Gyllenhaal, Harry Styles and Conor Kennedy - has made a clip called For Your ACM Consideration reported a publication online. In the video, Swift speaks to her friend about boy problems, with a pal confiding, "We were done, and then like a week later, they got together and that's like a few weeks ago and now they're in Italy." Swift then replied, "That's a big jump! That's a little fast, and I'm saying that. This guy is the reason why they made that block feature on the iPhone. You need to put his name in your phone as a weird word that's unattractive like grundle." — PTI
Aamir & Salman’s party time

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin have bought a Malibu mansion for USD 14 million. The beautiful property is located on the Little Dume. It is called The Garwood Residence and has heated floors, a top of the range kitchen and a full-size tennis court, reported a publication online. The famous couple, who got married in 2003, spent almost a decade in England, before moving to the US last year and bought a six-bedroom, eight-bathroom home in Hollywood for $10 million. However, Gwyneth, 41, didn't quite get off on the right foot with the nearby residents as one of her neighbours filed a formal complaint with the Department of Building and Safety because their property's gate exceeded the legal height limit, which is six-ft, in Los Angeles. The duo also owns a warehouse penthouse in New York City, which they bought in 2007 for USD 3 million. — PTI Theory of distance
Jennifer Hudson cuts ties with Weight Watchers. Though her body remains testament to its success, singer-actress Jennifer Hudson is no longer a face of Weight Watchers. The Dreamgirls star and the weight-loss brand have parted ways after four years, after her commitments to the company were fulfilled, her representative said, reported a publication online. "My experience with Weight Watchers has truly been life changing. I am grateful for what I have learned throughout the process and will always take it with me. I have chosen to step away from my role as an ambassador and I am excited for the year to come, with many new projects and lots of new music," Hudson said in a statement. Speculation about a possibly not-very-amicable split circulated after Hudson tweeted, "Sometimes you have to step back and let your work speak for you, and when that doesn't work you walk away knowing you did your best...It's been fun and a pleasure good luck to you all @WeightWatchers." Hudson welcomed son David in 2009 and hooked up with Weight Watchers the following year. The Oscar winner ultimately shed 80 pounds. — PTI A bunch of ‘just good friends’!

Stars and the Holi affair
Our television stars simply love Holi. Here are some of them talking about their memories of the festival.
Naughty streak
Anuj Saxena: Holi reminds me of bhaang, booze and colours! It's a chilled out festival to go out there and have a good time. I used to play Holi earlier, but not anymore. I am a very colourful person anyway. When I was in college and a friend dislocated his arm while playing Holi and I had to relocate it being a doctor. I would like to make peace, forgive, and forget everyone who holds anything against me. I would like to play Holi with Sunny Leone. Need I spell out the reason as well?
Holi ties
Rishina Kandhari: Holi reminds me of mithai, beautiful colours and the fun, which I had in my childhood days. I miss my childhood days, when everyone from my family played Holi together along with my friends. I would like to play Holi with Amitabh Bachchan. I want to dance with him on Rang Barse and Shava Shava.
Zoom in
Vahbbiz Dorabajee: Holi reminds me of colours and happiness. I tried bhang once and I would suggest everyone to stay away from it. Zoom Holi Party is always awesome. I have attended it for a couple of times and it was always full of craziness. I would love to play Holi with Ranbir Kapoor. He would look perfect in red and green colour on his face.
Bundle of joy
Sargun Mehta: Holi reminds me of crazy colours, tomatoes, and khichad. I have even played with bhelpuri and jalebi. However, I don't play Holi every year. It depends on my mood. The most memorable Holi would be Colors Holi, where I was hosting the entire event and it was fabulous because I was enjoying Holi with my friends. I would like to play Holi with Shah Rukh Khan. I adore him and he would look perfect in a variety of colors on his face.
With a colourful smile
Shraddha Musale: Holi reminds me of colours. It's the only festival where we can have lots of fun and get dirty to the fullest. I never miss an opportunity to celebrate Holi. My most memorable Holi would be celebrations in my childhood days. I do not have enemies at all so have no one to forgive. I would like to play Holi with Irfan Khan if I had a chance.
United colours of festivity
Shama Sikander: Holi means celebration, getting mixed in different colours and becoming one. It's the celebration of oneness. I have been playing Holi for the last few years and its friends who pull me into it. I enjoy the rain dance and masti. There was time when I used to hide because I am a cleanliness freak and never liked getting dirty. I am, by nature forgiving, so I don't need Holi to resolve issues with anyone. I would love to play Holi with Leonardo de Caprio.
Playing safe
Jay Soni: I enjoy playing Holi with my family members. Every year, I play safe holi. Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are the two actress with whom I would love to play Holi with because Kareena is an Indian beauty and Deepika is perfect in every sense of the word.
Annual treat
Mohammed Nazim: Holi is an awesome festival. I celebrate it with my family members. Also, I love drinking bhaang. I play Holi every year, but I remember ten years ago, I played holi with my cousin in my hometown, when we threw eggs on each other. Kareena Kapoor is my favourite actor and I would love to play Holi with her and throw red colour on her.
Smells like the teen spirit
Vivian Dsena: I play Holi every year, but only with Gulaal. My most beautiful memory of Holi is when, in Ujjain, I played with my friends. I was a teenager back then and we all jumped into a swimming pool. Rekha is my favourite actor and it would be great to play Holi with her.
Wishing well
Gunjan Uterja: Holi reminds me of colours and mithai. As a child, I would play Holi with organic colours and water balloons. I have not played Holi for three years now. In college, we would get together in big groups and apply colour on girls, who we fancied. I want to play Holi with Deepika Padukone. It would be fun and we could sing and dance on the song, Kitna Maza Aa Raha Hai from her film, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.
