Abohar
Life term for murder:
Mehanga Singh alias Mangal Singh of Gurusar Modian village on the Sriganganagar-Suratgarh road has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a district court in Sriganganagar. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 7 lakh on him. Sources said the accused, suspecting his wife's character, had thrashed her on November 26, 2010, following which she died.

Woman found dead: An unidentified woman was found dead near Ramsara village on the Hanumangarh-Abohar state highway on Sunday. DSP Veer Chand, SHO Jaswant Singh and NGO Nar Sewa Narayan Sewa president Raj Kumar Charaya visited the site and reportedly found the body in a semi-nude state. The locals suspected foul play. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital here for the post-mortem examination.

Girl gang-raped, 2 held: The police have arrested Deepak and Vinod Kumar under sections 376, 342/34 of the IPC for allegedly raping a girl of Shergarh village in the sub-division. The victim alleged she was called by Deepak, her immediate neighbour, to his house to attend a phone call from her relative. When she went there, she was raped by three youths. The victim's medical examination confirmed that she was raped. The third accused, Mangi Lal, has absconded.

Medical camp organised:
The Seth Shankar Dass Daulat Ram Nagpal Charitable Trust organised 22nd prosthetic and medical check-up camp here on Sunday.  Dr Rakesh Arora, Deputy Director, Health Department, Punjab, inaugurated the camp. The experts of examined 110 physically handicapped persons.

Five-year-old girl dies in road accident:
A five-year-old girl was mowed down by a speeding vehicle at Jamalpur here on Sunday. The victim has been identified as Anjni, daughter of Radhe Sham, a resident of Tajpur Road. @@Anjani was walking along with her father when a speeding car came from behind and crushed her to death.

IMA official elected:
Local private practitioner Dr Sudhir Raj on Sunday took over as Associate President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Punjab. Dr Raj said he would push for constitutional reforms, more participation from members, and focus on the PNDT Act and biomedical waste disposal.

Minor gang-raped: A minor girl of Karaiwala village in Gidderbaha was allegedly gang-raped by three youths of the same village. The accused scaled the wall of victim’s house on Thursday night, abducted her and took her to a village in Rajasthan, where they allegedly raped her. The victim is a student of Class XII. The police have registered a case of rape on the complaint by the victim’s parents.

Woman commits suicide:
A 26-year-old married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Meeranpur village on Saturday night. The victim, Jyoti, was reportedly depressed as she was suffering from some ailment. Her body was handed over to her family members after a post-mortem.

Shop burgled: A crockery shop in the local Subhash Nagar was reportedly burgled yesterday night. The thieves took away Rs 1.25 lakh and goods worth Rs 25,000, shop owner Vivek Chopra complained to the police. A case has been registered.

Bid to break open ATM:
Unidentified miscreants damaged an ATM machine of Punjab And Sind Bank at Khadoor Sahib on Saturday night. They however failed to reach the chest where money is kept. The Goindwal Sahib police have registered a case on a complaint by Amitab Dalakdar, branch manager of the bank.

7 booked for abducting girl: Five members of a family among seven persons were booked by the Sadar police for allegedly abducting a minor girl of Kallha village. The accused have been identified as Pal Singh Pallu, Bobby, Jaswinder Singh, his wife Amarjit Kaur, son Sukhdeep Singh and daughter Varinder Kaur.

Wine shop looted: Four unidentified car-borne youths allegedly looted a wine shop at Naushehra Pannuan village on Saturday evening. The Sarhali police have registered a case. The accused came to the vend as customers. They overpowered the salesman and took away Rs 45,000, a mobile phone and four liquor bottles.
