Immigration firm’s owner sent to 3-day remand
Mohali, March 8 She was produced before the court of Duty Magistrate Surbhi Prashar. A case had been registered against Rashmi on February 14 under Sections 406, 420, IPC, and Section 24 of the Immigration Act. The complaint in this regard was made on October 26 last year wherein three complainants — Vinod Kumar, Neeraj Kumar and Neeraj Sharma —alleged that Rashmi defrauded them of several lakhs of rupees on the pretext of sending them abroad. She even secured a fake work permit for a complainant, said the police. |

Lok Adalat in Mohali district on April 12
Mohali, March 8 Bindra said nine benches of Lok Adalat had been constituted at Mohali and three each at Dera Bassi and Kharar. These benches would be presided over by judicial officers, who would be assisted by nominated members and lawyers. Besides the nine benches at Mohali, some more benches for traffic, Municipal Corporation and revenue cases would be resolved in the National Lok Adalat. |

Gang of thieves busted, 15 vehicles recovered
Chandigarh, March 8 Acting on the tip-off, a team of Sector 34 police station, under the supervision of DSP (South) Surjit Malik and SHO Rajesh Shukla, laid a naka near Luxmi Narain Mandir in Sector 44, said the SSP “The accused were intercepted and it was found that two different registration numbers were displayed on the front and the rear number plates,” he said. The accused were identified as Suraj, a resident of Dhanas, and Rajat, a resident of Sector 25. On interrogation, the accused revealed the names of their accomplices Ajay, a resident of Jagatpura colony, Mohali, and Rahul, a resident of Sector 25. Their arrests lead to the recovery of 14 more two-wheelers that were stolen from different parts of the city, said the SSP. “The accused used to commit snatchings and thefts on the stolen motorcycles. More vehicles are expected to be recovered,” he said.
Mobile phone thief held
The police have arrested a thief and recovered 16 mobile phones and 30 mobile batteries he had stolen from different parts of the city. The accused has been identified as Deepak and hails from the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. A case has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. |

Police to identify vacant govt houses in Sectors 22, 23

Chandigarh, March 8 The police authorities will soon write to the UT Administration in this regard. UT SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said today, “As theft incidents have increased in these sectors and thieves are mostly targeting government accommodations, we have started a survey to identify which houses are currently vacant.” “The area DSP has been asked to prepare a list of such houses where a close watch will be kept,” said the SSP. Recently, a thief had challenged the Chandigarh Police by leaving a note promising to strike at government houses in Sector 23 on March 3. Following this, the sector was sealed and police personnel were deployed in civvies even as patrolling parties kept a watchful eye. However, no theft was reported on the day. Thieves have been targeting government houses and have also left behind notes twice challenging the police to strike back. The SSP said security had been beefed up in the area and patrolling parties were keeping vigil. “Area residents have also been asked to stay alert,” he added.

Sub-Himalayan Open Rally to be flagged off on March 22
Chandigarh, March 8 The challenge category will be based on high speed whereas the endurance trial will be based on the Time-Speed- Distance (TSD) format. The super special stage (SSS) will be held on March 21 where the participants will showcase their driving skills. The Leg 1 and Leg 2 of the extreme and TSD will take place on March 22 and 23. The rally will witness prominent players vying for the total cash prizes of around Rs 2.5 lakh. Also, the 27th edition of the rally will attract teams from Air Force, Rajasthan and Uttaranchal along with female players. Giving information about the rally, SPS Ghai, clerk of course, mentioned that the extreme rally will be open to jeeps, cars and motorbikes. Pak golfers visit city
Chandigarh, March 8 The Indo- Pak brotherhood golfing event was organised under the aegis of the Global Golfing Group (3G), represented by CSR Reddy (IPS), ADGP, Punjab Police. All members participated in an 18-hole golf friendly match. RS Cheema, former Advocate-General, Punjab, and TPS Virk participated in the event. The event provided a platform to golfers from both sides to interact informally over the game. The next leg of the event will be held in Lahore in the end of the year. The visitors were presented with a coffee table book and a club tie of the Chandigarh Golf Club. |
