Chain snatched from woman
: Two motorcycle-borne youths snatched a gold chain from a woman near the 23 number railway crossing in Islamabad here today. Parshotam Singh, husband of the victim, said they fled after snatching the chain.

Varsity may set up campus abroad:
A delegation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, led by its general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, called on the Governor of the State of Makindu, Kenya, to talk about collaboration in the fields of education, environment and agriculture. A team of the Sikh Supreme Council of Kenya had earlier visited the SGGS World University and urged its authorities to establish an off-shore campus in Kenya. Vice Chancellor Gurmohan Singh Walia said the Governor assured the delegation of its support for the project.

Migrant labourer kills wife:
The police on Friday booked a migrant labourer on the charge of killing his wife. The couple had a dispute over some matter that led the accused, Anil Kumar, to kill his wife Mamta Rani. They were residents of Subhash Basti on the Maur road. On seeing Anil dumping the body near the railway line, a passerby informed the police. The woman was taken to the Civil Hospital, from where the doctors referred her to Faridkot, where she died.

SSP sets example: Complying with the Supreme Court order, SSP Surjit Singh on Friday removed the red beacon from his official vehicle. “We have to follow the apex court order. So I removed the red beacon from my official vehicle,” he said.

Rs 15.90 lakh cash seized:
The Chaheru police seized Rs 15.90 lakh unaccounted cash from a car on Thursday, a day after the model code of conduct came into effect with the announcement of the Lok Sabha poll schedule. The money was seized on the national highway near Chaheru from a car driven by Dalbir Singh of Chauki Mann, Mullanpur Dakha, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jasbir Singh Rai said.

19-yr-old girl kills self: A 19-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Dhuri, about 14 km from here, on Friday. She was a student of BA I at Desh Bhagat College in Bardwal near Dhuri. Station House Officer Satnam Singh said the victim’s motive to commit the alleged act could not be ascertained yet. A case has been registered.

Protest in Bathinda today: Anganwari workers and helpers, who are on a relay fast outside Punjab Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa here, would protest in Bathinda on Saturday. They demand monthly honourarium on the Haryana pattern — ~7,500 to an anganwari worker and ~5,000 to an anganwari helper.

100 penalised for smoking
: The police have launched a drive against smoking on the premises of SMHS hospital and recovered a fine of Rs 4,630 from the offenders. A police spokesman said nearly 100 offenders had been panelised for smoking on the premises of the hospital.

Kichloo at Winter Sectt: Minister of State for Industries and Commerce and Home Sajad Ahmad Kichloo shall be available for general public at the Winter Secretariat, Srinagar, from March 10 to 14, an official statement said here.
