Theft case: Thieves trailed victim, say police

In an important lead in the Rs 8-lakh theft case that took place outside a Sector-9 bank here yesterday, the Panchkula police have found that the thief had trailed the victim from a Sector-11 bank to Sector 9, the place where the money was stolen after breaking the windowpane of the car.

The CCTV footage recovered from inside the Sector-11 bank has matched with that of the CCTV footage from a showroom in Sector 9. Yesterday, the police had recovered the footage from outside a showroom in Sector 9 in which a person was seen carrying a bag and another keeping a watch. The police have revealed that the recce was carried out from inside the Sector 11 bank only.

Yesterday, two thieves had allegedly decamped with Rs 8 lakh from a car after breaking its windowpane. The victims had parked their car in front of Indusind Bank in Sector 9 and had gone inside the bank for some work. GL Singla, a resident of Sector 8, had gone to a bank in Sector 11 with his three relatives. They had gone to get the denomination of currency of Rs 12 lakh changed and after changing the same, they went to Indusind bank in Sector 9 With Rs 4 lakh, leaving Rs 8 lakh in the dashboard of the car.

“We also saw the footage inside the bank in Sector 11. A youth is seen standing exactly behind the victims while they were getting the currency changed,” said a police official requesting anonymity.

He added, “In the footage, it is seen that the youth is listening to their conversation and then he is seen following the victims first to the basement and then to the parking area.”

Leaving Rs 8 lakh in the car a folly

The armed security guard deployed at the bank said, "At least they could have told me to keep a watch on their car. How could they afford to leave Rs 8 lakh in the car and go?”

Suicide in paying guest accommodation
Missing mobile traced

A day after the police arrested a youth for abetting the suicide of a 24-year-old girl, the missing cell phone of the victim, Puneeta Kapoor has been traced. The missing mobile was recovered from the possession of accused Deepinder Singh following his police interrogation.

The girl had committed suicide on February 22. Accused Deepinder is the grandson of the PG owner, where victim used to stay, in Sector 16.

Police said during the interrogation, Deepinder confessed to steal the mobile of girl from her room so that police could not trace her contacts. Kin of deceased were alleging some foul play after the death of Punneta and also raised suspicion regarding disappearance of mobile.

The police said the mobile will be sent for forensic examination to CFSL-36 and Deepinder had deleted some of record from the cell phone. He said forensic experts will be asked to retrieve the deleted record.

Woman among 3 held for fraud

Mohali, March 2
The Mohali police today arrested three people including a woman for selling a plot in Kharar by preparing a fake registry of the plot. According to the police, accused identified as Ajit Kaur, Rattan Singh and Sukhdev Singh tried to sell a plot owned by complainant Kashmir Kaur. Kaur had purchased the plot from the accused in 2010.

Police stated that the accused went to the office of a property dealer and offered to sell the plot. The property dealer who was known to the complainant inquired about the plot, on which the complainant Kashmir Kaur denied of selling the plot. Acting swiftly Kashmir Kaur informed the police and the trio was arrested.

The accused were produced in the court and sent on two-day police remand.

Holding his best buddy tight, local youngster Rishab Sharda is approaching tall towards his goal of becoming a well known figure, in the world of tennis. A student of St. John's School, Sector 26, Rishab Sharda started his career at the age of 10-years and now after four years he has 15 titles of All-India Tennis Association (AITA) in his kitty. He won his first AITA title in 2011.

Aiming to be among top 10 players of the nation, in (U-14) category, the ace player is working hard to prove his mettle. "So far, I ht with this form throughout my peak aave performed well to reach my aim and will try to carry ouge. Till next year, I want to see myself in the top 10 players of the nation and hopefully will achieve my aim soon," said Rishab. Being asked about his present ranking, the ace player added, "Presently, I am holding 20th spot in the AITA ranking. Earlier, I was on the 11th spot that was my best. At this moment of life, I will try and take it further to my best. The upcoming various AITA series championship will decide my ranking's fate and hopefully, I will give my 100 per cent," said Rishab. In his recent feat, this 14-year old tennis prodigy has won the Talent Hunt series for boys (U-14), he won all the matches and outclassed his rivals. Earlier, he won top honours in various national level competitions and also booked his place in the second round of Finesta Open Tennis Championship for boys (U-16). He has also participated in the HSBC 'Road to Wimbledon' held at Delhi, he conceded a hard fought match with Vikas Singh, who is a top seed (U-14) in the sub-junior category, however, left the match in between due to cramps. He also played in a similar tournament held at Mumbai where he played in the semi- finals in doubles and pre-quarters in the singles. "I want to be a great player. I find hard courts as the easiest platform to play and lay stress on being fit. Ramanathan Ramkumar, who has inspired him at the ongoing ITF futures event, is my favourite player. And trying to learn all aspects under the guidance of Gajinder Singh director, coaching, CLTA” he added.
