Pathania to head Rajput welfare board:Capt RS Pathania has been appointed Chairman of the Punjab State Rajput Welfare Board. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said the file pertaining to the appointment of Capt Pathania, who is president of Rajput Sabha, Garhshankar, was cleared by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday. The formal orders would be issued soon, he added.Ticket sought for ST candidate:Dharamvir Mahia, convener of ST cell of the Congress, has urged the party high command to give at least one ticket to a leader of the scheduled tribes. He said he had applied for the party ticket from Khadoor Sahib. He said he urged the party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi that the scheduled tribes had earlier not been given representation in the Lok Sabha or the state assembly, thus ticket from at least one LS constitu-ency be given to an ST representative. Youth policy discussed:Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Harbir Singh gave details about the National Youth Policy
(NYP)-2014 during a program organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra at Model Town Club here. An awareness rally was also organised on this occasion. District Youth Coordinator DN Sharma said the policy aimed at making optimum use of youth’s potential for their empowerment and to create productive
manpower. The ADC said the implementation of the NYP had to be completed
within six months with the cooperation of all the
ministries concerned.

Infant abandoned:A newborn girl was abandoned on a bench at the Gidderbaha railway station on Monday. Some passengers informed the railway police about the baby being abandoned. They told the police that the woman accompanying the baby was wearing a green
saree. The police looked out for her but in vain. The infant was handed over to a social welfare
organisation.
