Firm, dealer penalised for deficiency in service
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, February 24
Whirlpool India Limited and a city-based dealer of the company have been penalised for selling a defective refrigerator to a Mohali resident. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed them to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation for harassment caused to the complainant.

Amit Kumar, the complainant, purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator from Arvindra Electronics Private Limited, Sector 22, for an amount of Rs 41,200. He said at the time of the purchase, the representatives of the opposite parties projected it to be the latest and the best model available in the market and in case of any problem in the said product, they had a replacement policy.

“Within two months of purchase, the refrigerator suddenly stopped working,” he said.

He registered a complaint about the fault.

On the next day, a company service engineer visited the complainant’s place and after checking the product, he thoroughly informed the wife of the complainant that there was a major manufacturing defect in the refrigerator and many parts of it would have to be replaced.

The complainant talked to the engineer over phone and asked him to get the refrigerator replaced because it was having a patent manufacturing defect.

The engineer left with the promise to visit again with his senior on the next day. However, nobody visited the place.

“We feel that the complainant has suffered mental tension, agony and physical harassment on account of the deficiency in service on the part of the opposite parties,” the forum said.

It also directed them to pay Rs 5,500 towards litigation expenses.

Shona A Singh
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, February 24
The Little Masters Junior Golf Tour (LMJGT) has proved a boon for the region’s young golfers. “Formed in 2012 to encourage junior golfers fulfill their dreams, the volunteers in LMJGT are apprised of the rules of the game and are encouraged to participate in large-scale golf events. We also give tips to parents on how to make their wards practice the game accurately. We guide them on zeroing in an efficient coach as well,” said Faisal Qureshi, founder of the LMJGT.

Qureshi plans to set up two more centres to assist junior golfers.

The tour has signed more than 250 members till now and has already implemented over 13 events, three parent/child events and the inaugural Punjab and Delhi NCR Skills Event.

In the skills challenge, organised in association with the 4th Punjab Event of the Little Masters Junior Golf Tour, local lad Simarjit Chadha had emerged victorious. The event was held at the Panchkula Golf Course and the Forest Hills Golf course recently.

“Clubs such as ITC Classic Resort, Panchkula Golf Club, JP Greens, Karma Lakelands, Forest Hills Golf Resort, Jalandhar Golf Club, Manesar Golf Club and Golden Greens Golf Club were kind enough to give their golf course for the events. They have helped us in promoting the game,” said Qureshi, who has also gained the recognition of the Indian Golf Union.

In the last event, over 100 players took part in a two-day affair at Forest Hills. Some of the leading players in the region are Simarjit, Amrit Lal, Karandeep Kochar, Jujhar Saini, Manjot Saini, Hunar Mittal and Ivan Jolly. The Little Masters Junior Tour's Australian representative, Lajla, also attended the event and is planning an event along with the Canberra juniors.

The LMJGT has also tied up with the Pepsi Titan Little People's Golf Championship in the USA and the Zhang Lian Wei Invitational Golf Championship in China. An exclusive tie-up with The Jason Floyd Golf Academy in Spain is another feather in the cap, where the management sends two players a year for a weeks’ coaching or invite academy coaches to visit India for attending camps.

Furthermore, the tour plans to take six junior golfers to St Andrews in 2015 to see the British Open and play a few links in golf courses.

“I have travelled all over the world playing and coaching the game. I visited India last year and was very impressed to see the response the game has been receiving,” said Micheal Hebron of the PGA of America.

“Junior golf is the most important aspect of the game today. The tour is helping the young children transform into little wonders,” said Jeev Milkha Singh.

In 2013, the tour donated Rs 30,000 to an NGO that helps underprivileged and handicapped children. The LMJGT has many projects in the pipeline this year.

Chandigarh, February 24
Junior international soccer players Daniel Lal Hlimpuia and Arzit Lal Ramzauva are paying visit to their Alma Mater, Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA), Sector 42, for the very last time now. The members of the junior Indian soccer team for Under-19 and Under-21 categories are now looking forward to a new lease of life.

In Chandigarh to sit for their Class X board examinations, both players are cherishing their stay at the local academy.

“The learning phase at the Chandigarh Football Academy taught us a lot. Our coach helped us prove our mettle. To become a part of the Indian team and to strive for perfection in each match is a big responsibility. All thanks to our efficient coaching and crystal-clear basics that we have managed to perform well so far,” said the duo.

Daniel represented the city in the SAFF Games for Boys (U-16) in Nepal. The team secured second position in the tournament. He was also selected for the Asian Qualifying Championship. A member of the Indian team too, Daniel says, “I am happy that I could carry forward my achievements at a good pace. I frequently accompany the senior age group side so as to gain experience. So far various international tours, under the guidance of proper staff, have helped me a lot. Arzit and I make a good striking pair. In addition, the experience gained under the guidance of coach Harjinder Singh has proved a real boon for us.”

Arzit plays at half-back. Like Daniel, he too played his first international match at SAFF Games for Boys (U-16) in Nepal, and later became a member of the team for the Portugal and England tour. “Life has totally changed now. All credit goes to the unconditional guidance of our coach. Playing for the nation is entirely different than representing a state. I am lucky that I came here to learn. I will encourage youth from my country to hone their skills here,” said Arzit.

Both the players, many a times, have helped the Chandigarh Football Academy to overcome strong opponents in different tournaments.

The duo played half-back in the team and Arzit, often, played as the main striker.

Both were enrolled in the academy in 2007.

“They are among the top talents that the Chandigarh Football Academy has produced so far. Both the ball players have the ability to turn the fortune in their favors. The academy and personally I will miss them a lot. I would like to wish them all the luck,” said Harjinder Singh, a former captain of the Indian football team and the coach at Chandigarh Football Academy.

‘We owe our success to our coach’

“The learning phase at the Chandigarh Football Academy taught us a lot. Our coach Harjinder Singh helped us prove our mettle. To become a part of the Indian team and to strive for perfection in every match is a big responsibility.
